I seem to recall someone posted a trip report for a trip to Mozambique but for the life of me I cannot find it with the search feature.

I was thinking of taking the kids and the lovely missus to Maputo for a few days in July/August.

Anyone been there recently?

Couple questions that I have:

Can you drive there easily in a sedan? (e.g. BMW)
Is it safe?
Easy to drive in Mozambique?

We have had enough of beach resorts. Wanted to stay at the Polana or Holiday Inn and get a taste of the city life.

Any comments appreciated.

Maputo - one of the few African cities I actually hated.

Hope you enjoy it though :)

Yeah, I have been avoiding it for a while .... but since we are not doing any international trips this year, I decided to give it a chance.

Honestly speaking, I want to go there just to eat tons of prawns straight from the boats that are prepared at teh beachside cafe's.

Can you drive there easily in a sedan? (e.g. BMW) Yes, but only on the normal "tourist" roads, not going to get close to the nice places close to the coast. For that you need a 4X4.
Is it safe? Yes, we haven't had any problems in the last 6 years.
Easy to drive in Mozambique? Yes, as long as you keep to the speed limit :D

I'm going next friday!! Whoop Whoop!!!

Just for work though......
But i'm goig to Shopies and have me some prawns!!!!!

I did not like Maputo at all.

Never met more corrupt cops in one trip, and since you are a foreigner, you don't know what they're gonna do with you if you do not oblige and pay the bribes ...

It seems that after the civil war, the locals did not bother fixing up the place. So many bombed buildings and craters in the road (next to fancy hotels).

Please note this is JMO.

Oh hell.... my dislexia is on the rampage today! I have been called in to the bosses office as well.....

Sophies. Im gonna ask, it's going to be my first time, but my bf has recent photos of him eating prans the size of lobster and he says its the best he has ever had...

Cool. The link clarifies it for me. Now I am hungry ...

Think I am gonna duck off early and grab me some prawns from Adega. Let me phone them now.
