First USB 3.0 product certified

How would that copy protection work? Your idea sounds like an embedded system. If the data still needs copying across to the host machine then it can be copied somehow. An encrypter IC however would be ideal.

Last I used FW was back when I used some Macs, maybe 9 years ago. I've still to try it on something more modern. It's just that things with it on seem to be geared mainly for Mac and when for PC they're expensive. Then again, I didn't buy a big-ass PC case to have many external bits. :)

It's looking good for next Thursday.

:D Not sure. Probably quicker these days than a few years back. Looks like there are alot more upgrades these days (or is that warranty returns?) so if every manufacturer jumps onto the USB3 thing next year then it'll probably be quicker than the previous versions.

I would think a safer bet would be this:

It is imminent! :D

But yeah, wouldn't hold off buying PC just for USB3 or SATA3, based on this logic you would never buy a PC. Although, I remember when I bought my first PC, a blazingly fast P1, then three months later P2s came out, was rather annoyed about that.

Yes, Apple were the first to push FW 400 and then FW 800 onto the market. Creating a loyal set, who now demand it (me included).
To the dismay of these users, Apple started releasing their lower end models (and Macbook Air) without it. Obviously because general computer user don't need it nor know about it.
Another reason it hasn't caught on as well as it could have, is because licensing costs are higher than USB.
USB3 is very welcome thing in my eyes. If it's equally efficient to FW800 (& ESATA etc), for backing up terabytes of data onto future External HDD's, it should please everyone.
