Fitch stops rating SA

If you can't make it on the list, you cancel your membership. This is similar to the Bashir & ICC case.

And with that the rand hits a new low against the usd.

I can't wait for Zuma to go...2019 seems so far away.

Maybe, if we're lucky, he'll kick the bucked.

so who rates the rating agencies

did everyone forget they were complicit in the financial crisis

I wouldn't attach any value to what rating agencies do or don't do.

I've been discussing this with many for quite some time. Zuma needs to stay in power to stay out of jail, I fear he will try for a third term.

Zuma with be the next president.. Just not the current Zuma ;)

I reckon he needs to win a 3rd term as the ANC head or be succeeded by a friendly like his ex wife to avoid potential corruption charges. At the same time the ANC would likely want to sweep this era under the carpet as doing anything beyond this opens them up for too much criticism which will be costly

Read about this the weekend btw, thinking maybe it's a precursor move so that they can rate without political influence?

No he won't, if he did he'd risk getting unceremoniously dumped and the ANC installing someone potentially hostile to him and then risking jail time. All he has to do is ensure that the next guy or girl looks on him favourably. And at the moment the YL and WL are pushing for a woman president. The YL is gelded so they're probably not the king makers of Malema's time.

They cannot issue valid rating without registration with the FSB. They'd occupy the same space as speculators if they issued ratings without regulation - and speculators are much despised for their border line unscrupulous behaviour. Besides ratings agencies are more likely to come up against political pressure in Europe than lowly Africa as we saw with France.

The Constitution says no. We'll have to see how this stands up though.

How do you know his successor will be any better ?

Anything with half a brain would be better than this twat.

You are extremely naive. Zuma has transformed the entire leadership structure of the ANC into one based on corruption and cronyism.

If there were any people with morals and decency left do you think the entire party would be protecting Zuma the way they have been? After seeing Zuma and his friends get away with plundering the country with no consequences do you really think there is any incentive for his succesor to do anything else?

I am not...don't try and accuse me of things you know nothing about, k?

I said: "We'll have to see how this stands up though" if you read a bit further.

Fitch Southern Africa does not issue our overall national rating. That is done by the international parent company.

The local branch issues ratings for individual companies on contract. It seems like business has been slow on that front so they are closing shop.

The title of the article is totally misleading (but we are starting to get used to that).
