Fix windows 8 use start8

Thanks for Start8!

I just bought Windows 8 at R130. Also bought and installed Start8.

This is a great piece of software. Gave me back the start menu and also boot up directly to my desktop.

Now I have Win 7 back with the advantages of Windows 8.

Now just waiting for my free media center key to arrive.........

Isn't that part of pro ? I thought it was only excluded from N editions.

I am not sure. Microsoft offers it free on their website. I just entered my email address which I used to purchase the upgrade with, now just waiting for the key. Already got a confirmation email that the key will arrive within 24 hours.

The Media Center Kit only plays DVDs in Media Center, not Media Player.

We can blame Microsoft for this, or we can blame the real culprits: DVD rights body (DVD Format/Logo Licensing Corporation?). Starting with Windows 8, they apparently wanted over a dollar per Windows licence from MSFT for Microsoft to include DVD playback as standard in Win8, including Window RT (which doesn't come with a DVD drive). There was apparently a lot of to-and-fro'ing but eventually Microsoft told them to take hike. Seems Microsoft are not the only greedy company on earth.

Its not actual a single company, see http://www.dvd6cla.com/

Another fun part is playback falls under Software patents so in SA we do not need to pay for a licensed. One could also argue that the use of Libdvdcss(VLC) is totally legal in SA. (Still to be tested in court)

Ah cool, I've already got PowerDVD12 Ultra, so don't need, or want, low-budget media centre software on my pc as well. :)

can anyone confirm to me if I buy Start8 that I could use it on more than one pc?

I've got half a month of my Start8 trial left, and I have every intention of buying it when it runs out. Start8 send me an email offering a 20% discount because I haven't purchased it yet. On $5. Shame. I really hope they've had good sales because it's the best product of its kind.
