a fixed IP

+1 on the above. What you can do to further that is to get a free .za.net domain for yourself and to use that on the dyndns account.

THank for that guys ..but is a Fixed IP possible and what are the rates,

THanks
DD

Sure, it's possible, but I've only seen it on pure uncapped accounts... which start at around R2500pm.

You can get a fixed ip solution with 5gb cap for about R600/month.

well if we may ask what would you need the fixed IP for? maybe we can help you out there and give you a cheaper soloution to your answer.

Would that allow the dyndns to update via local as well? (the .za.net domain)

Could you kindly explain more and how I would use it.. Thanks!

Dyndns probably wont update with a local only account - your IP information is sent to the server which is international :f

Oh?
Interesting ...

Now that you mention it, my router automatically updates my IP to DynDNS and I'm currently on local-only - and it seems to be updating it.

Maybe IS allows a connection to their IP?

Ask your ISP what they offer...

I mailed Cybersmart Tuesday afternoon about details for a static IP. Got the reply a few minutes later, and for R50 extra a month you get a 196.* IP, not the 41.* that gets blocked by most corporate companies. I was told I will need to get a new router, all fine. So I told them to go ahead with the order and setup of the new router. They mailed my IP to me so long, with dns details that I will need to use. The next morning at 09:00 the router was delivered, all setup. I just had to plug it in and it worked right away. (I added the new IP, gateway and dns to my ISA server the night before on the external adapter)

Great service by Zaid from Cybersmart, thank you very much.

I must add that I was half disappointed when I saw there was a VPN connection also running on the new router. these vpn ADSL accounts are slower that the normal ADSL (I don't get 400kb's download anymore) and the vpn connection uses traffic on your account as well to keep the connection alive.... I just wonder how much traffic it uses. Saw a article about it somewhere a few days ago, can anyone point me to it?

Online gaming works great, as does VOIP, and no disconnections so far... (and can now publish on port 80 as well, before I had to publish on any other usable port and redirect it to port 80 on my internal web server) I don't have a business/company, I only had to get a static IP for testing stuff on my home network before implementing it at work, and this service from Cybersmart works great!:)
