Thinking of getting a fixed home lte contract with Mtn or Vodacm, but have heard the speed drops a lot during loadshedding?? (more than normal mobile lte)
No fibre in my area yet.

It's hit or miss and very much depends on the condition of towers in your area, whether they have battery backup, how many people are connecting to the towers during loadshedding etc..

The only people who can tell you, are those in your nearby vicinity who already have fixed LTE..

Simply doing some speed tests from your phone during loadshedding would also give you some indication of what to expect, but take the results with a grain of salt, since there may very well be different QoS for fixed LTE..

In my area, I go from full bars on 4g to maybe one or two on HSDPA+..

As others have said it depends on the area. Mine never goes down completely because there are other towers to connect to when one gets shed. Every once in a while my closest tower gets shed and the next closest as well and then I can see quite a significant drop in signal on my router and my speeds do go down a bit as well. I've found that using a prepaid sim on the network I'm considering for fixed LTE has been a good indicator of performance during loadshedding.
