I read about the fixed-LTE offerings from MTN in this article:

MTN's prices seem better, but I'm coming from Rain's fixed LTE product, which didn't (doesn't) have tower lock. The ability to move my modem to various sites was fairly important to my use-case for it.

Does the Telkom product also suffer from this issue?

Can I get someone official to confirm that? It's only a month-to-month, but still don't really want to waste the cash...
I can confirm that MTN does have a tower lock, and getting it changed to another tower permanently is a huge issue. Go with Telkom.

So why post here? go call mtn and telkom
There are threads currently about it.. try search for them.. do some reading

Gosh, someone got out of bed on the wrong side. I did do some reading, and couldn't find anyone saying explicitly yea or nay. Was hoping one of the Afrihost people would respond.

Dude this is the Afrihost Support Forum. If this isn't the right place to ask these questions then I apologise for singling you out for offence.

Otherwise, just chill.

Did you try pm the afrihost reps ?
I didn't, I prefer to post where others can read it because I'm sure I'm not the only one with this question.

In the meantime I've discovered I'm on the edge of the Rain 5G coverage so since it's available I'm going to go with that. It's not tower locked and will fall back to 4G if I move it somewhere with no 5G coverage, so it ticks all my boxes.

Rain's service is limited to certain devices which require wall power. This is their way if discouraging people from using this as a mobile solution.

Telkom is not tower locked at the moment, but they may possibly implement this in the future.

Remember that Fixed LTE is meant to be a "fixed" solution. It's generally not intended to be mobile :(

Thanks for confirming - my intention isn't too plug it into a cellphone, but rather to relocate to e.g. a client's premises to demonstrate something internet-related. So I'd plug the modem in at whatever site I'm in.

I guess there are going to be exceptions, but the LTE providers might still view that as a "mobile" solution.

I guess then you gotta go with whichever one will allow you to do that - but you may sacrifice coverage and performance :(

My personal opinion - the MTN offer has a pretty decent router (great WiFi coverage and penetration for walls etc) and also offers great coverage and performance.

Except the MTN offer is tower locked and the furthest I'd be able to take it is my neighbor's house.

If I were looking to replace an ADSL connection, the MTN offer might be ok. I'm not though, I'm looking for a secondary connection which can be moved to different sites if the need should arise.

Will cellc fixed lte deals be migrated to MTN?

Will cellc fixed lte deals be migrated to MTN?
As far as I know the 100GB and 200GB is being migrated to MTN. Afrihost sends a mail with a link to do the migration. If you gonna call them don't use option 1, the general enquiries guys/girls are quite clueless. Rather go with option 2 then 1 for technical support

We're migrating the larger packages first - as Cell C is ending those at the end of this month. Smaller packages will be migrated next, those should remain active until early next year.

We want to have all clients moved over to an alternative (either MTN, Telkom or Fibre) by end of Jan.

Clients will receive an email with specific instructions based on their package.

I have the 20GB sim only bit still in the 6 months cancellation period. Obviously I don't need it because I have pure fibre and Rain 5G. The reason I'm asking is because of the R999 cancellation fee. I would love to migrate to MTN or if the cancellation fee is waived cancel otherwise I just have to wait it out.

If you are using the migration process, the cancellation fee wouldn't apply.
