Fixing Cat5 to walls, roof

How did you/would you do it? I'm trying to make it look neat but I don't have the patience to hold the Cat5 for that long for the glue to dry.

I've tried a glue gun with glue sticks (worked terribly, always comes loose) and Bostic Clear (works, but takes forever to dry). Ideas, pointers, criticism please?
 
How about that small squarish plastic conduit with removable cover from electrical distributors, it comes in a variety of sizes.

Why don't you just go wireless?
 
I prefer ..or am at least used to.. the fun times that come with hotglue :rolleyes:. But look around for the glue that alarm installers use - it's also a clear glue but, AFAIK, is faster-setting than regular Bostik.

That said, why not hot glue - I do 30-50cm segments at a time and it goes pretty quickly...
 
Tried the hot glue, sets pretty quickly but doesn't last long before the cable peels off (and yes, I've tried both using little and using much glue with no luck). I'm thinking of doing the hot glue and then going back and adding some Bostik to it.

I've seen the alarm installers use some fast-setting glue, but couldn't as of yet get the name of the product. Maybe I'll call ADT or somebody.

Yes, that's the stuff you need. You can get it from security shops as well. You squirt a line of it in the corner. push the wire onto it. It won't stick right away, but after 30 seconds when you push it again it sticks.

Run it up the corner of a room and drill a small hole in the ceiling. push the wire through the ceiling being careful to avoid any electrical wires (don't let it run near any other wiring).
 
Go to a hardware store and get the correct glue. Specially made for Glueing wires to walls. Is called Secure Stick. Works fast! (Usually in the electrical dept)

edit: it is the same stuff the security companies use. I use it for all my wiring, cat5, coax, speakers ... the lot...

That "No-Nails" stuff sucks @ss, and its a dog ugly brown colour. definately not the same stuff. The Secure Stick glue is specially formulated to bond through the paint into the underlying cement / brick etc. without destroying the plastic protective sheathing of your cables.

Funny, mine never have/do - and that's for vertical (easy) and horizontal runs (less easy, gravity is NOT your friend here) - you sure you're doing it right? :D ..after all, it IS 'hot' glue we're talking about, as in "AAARGHBLOODYHELLITBURNSITBURNSMYHAND"-hot.

ROFL .... been there done that - still got the flippin scar! You just can't get it off when it drips on your hand!!! (just spreads the burn baby!)

Okay, leaning more to the roof idea. Only SUCKING part is that I'm big, my roof area is tiny and I've got rats. Either that or Secure Stic.

agreed, quite a bit of my skin got peeled off using hot glue :(
 
I've never had a problem with a glue gun - if done properly.

When I do mine soon with CAT6 - it'll be up the walls with a glue gun, in the roof and down the walls again.

I do the same.... up the wall into the ceiling. Nowdays I just put an AP in the ceiling. Wireless throughout the house... sorted. And yes it streams Video files just fine @54mbs...
 
Wireless is to slow for my project though - want to go HDMI > CAT6 > HDMI - not really using it for networking.

Slight derail, whats the cover called that goes over cable up a wall to hide it?
