Flamingo Vlei fire

Penguins, sea birds evacuated following Table View blaze

CAPE TOWN – Scores of penguins and other sea birds in a section of the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (Sanccob)’s building in Table View is currently being evacuated.

This is due to a vegetation fire in close proximity to the building.

Firefighters have been battling to douse the blaze since midnight.

The best way to control Typha seems to be using fire and physical cutting in conjunction with flooding. If the reeds are burnt and/or cut when water levels are low, and then flooded, growth is considerably inhibited. An effective control can be achieved by a combination of mechanical and hand cutting at the end of the growing season and when water levels are low, two clippings about a week or two apart will achieve best results, but then the cut area must be submerged as soon after in at least 8 to 10 cm of water when water levels rise again.

The reports were showing fire engines fighting it but I couldn't see any last night on the way home or this morning. Are they just letting it burn out or what?

When I drove through, the firemen were standing next to their trucks looking ready to leave. A friend drove by just after me and said they had gone.
Maybe they are just going to let in burn out but it was right next to the road in some parts. Seems weird that they're just leaving it.
There's zero visibility in some parts

Thought it was set by bergies. Bergies usually camp out in the ditch between the road and PnP.

I heard a lot of people on radio moan about Guy Fawke's and pets. What do these people do during thunderstorms?
