Hi,

Im using a friends flash drive (1gig transcend) ...it picks up on my pc but doesnt show under my computer...checked the drivers and it seems fine....
i then put in my own flash drive to see whether it was a problem with the port but that worked fine as well...BUT i then noticed that my flash was now showing 16 virus files ...these are personal and work files so i cant delete them and avg doesnt seem to be able to clean them...what should i do ? im sure the viruses came from the 1st flash drive...the virus shows stops the autoplay from running etc ...how can i fix this ?

thanks

Get to a computer with good antivirus (or Linux) and clean your flash before continuing.

That flash might not be showing because of a drive-letter conflict. Try and change the offending flash's drive letter to something obscure like m:\

So it doesn't pick anything else up? Not even your optical drive? We're talking about the little graphical graph things in the bottom pane, not the tabular information in the top pane.

Does the flash drive pick up on another PC? Have you tried the flash drive on other ports?

i tried it on other pc's as well, the little green icon comes on the bottom left hand side of the screen as per usual but when i go under my computer it doesnt show...it doesnt give you a pop up screen to view the contents either...and yes it doesnt pick up under disk management ...i just double checked all it shows are c:/ and a cd rom (although its actually a dvd writer :) ) my other flash drive also seems to pick up in there when i plug it in ...so dont know what else to do

You can try the following:

With the faulty drive plugged in, open Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager).

Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. You should see a Mass storage device listed. Right-click and Uninstall it. Safely remove the drive, count to 5 and plug it in again.

Worked for me a few times with dodgy flash drives.
