I am not sure whether this should be here or in PD, so a mod can move it to wherever they feel it belongs.

I have been reading quite a lot about the Flat Earth Society, and it boils down to one massive conspiracy that governments around the world (most who whom cannot agree on many things), are trying to fool us into thinking the earth is round.

Why would they even want to do that? What would they gain by having us believe the earth is round when it is flat? I cannot join the site to ask questions. :(

Its surprising that, in this day and age, people can still believe the earth is flat.
What do they believe flight and sail crews see when they travel east from, say, Australia or west from the USA?

Yeah you should really check out their forum! It's madness!

The funniest of all is that most people are taken in by the Flat Earth Society website.

It's a joke, people.

The last laugh is on those who think they're serious.

Beats me, I'm still trying to figure out why the man planted all those fossils and manipulated the DNA of every life form on earth to make it look like we all evolved from a common ancestor.

Yes, some morons think that is also a conspiracy.

Logic (and the sun) tells us that the earth is a rotating sphere, but if you havnt launched your own rocket with camera into space and seen for yourself then the earth must be flat right lol

Hehe. Sure. Wikipedia knows everything. That's why I'm an editor. ;)

Dude, it's a thorough, well referenced article on the history of the very group of dim-bulbs that gave rise to using 'flat earther' as an insult. One should perhaps not assume the total investment of those running the 'society' today, but the roots of buffoonery are quite clear. Now, I know you sympathise with those who believe weird ****, but this isn't the simple satirical joke you'd want it to be.

One of the cleverest people I know is a member, he even states so on his business card, and I can assure you he does it as some kind of intellectual joke.

I'm not saying there aren't true Flatievers around & also if satire quite covers it, but they're just having fun messing with your belief systems.

One of the people who influenced me the most at school, was my Science teacher. Mr Stoltz. Nice guy, brilliant, and really loved his subject.
But he could drive us to distraction by making a statement and then challenging us to prove it wrong. Taught me to question everything and not take anything at face value. Knowing him - he'd be a member of the Flat Earth Society, just to mess with people.

Maybe they are big Terry Pratchett fans. Dunno how they gonna explain the turtle and the 4 elephants.
