Wife is looking for two wardrobes with some drawers. I said I'll make it but she doesn't want to wait. The stuff I saw in the stores were pure junk.

She found this one:

Width and depth is okay but the height is not great. 2.1m height would have been better.

Anyone know what the quality is like for these decofurn units or know of something similar but better quality.

Seen them in store.. terrible quality.. edging is basically paper and drawer runners are not the ball bearing version..

diycupboards.com has 2100mm height cupboard with drawers, though I think they still running non ball bearing runners but you could replace them with ball bearing runners..

Units I looked at seems like no delivery to KZN as they are pre-assembled .

Take the news to wifey that no one delivers to KZN and it's best and cheaper she waits on you to make it..

You'd be in for two sheets at most I imagine, so looking at about 1600bucks for the sheets (assuming your local board stores also run CPT prices) probably around 600bucks in edging and then another 300-400 bucks on drawer runners and handles depending how many drawers you do..

I was thinking of using MDF / Supawood and then paint it. Don't like the chipboard melamine, but it is an option as well.

I would not do MDF for cupboards.. it doesn't hold on to screws very well and is very prone to splitting.. it absolutely will absorb every bit of moisture it can..

It's also considerably more expensive than chipboard..

I had same situation, we needed extra bed and my plan was to build if from nice oak.
It was taking time so wife decided to buy one, in particular one from decofurn.
With bit of argument I managed to convince her to go to the shop and look at it.
Absolute junk.....

My Bed structure and all is now done, this weekend I will put some oil on it and then final assembly.
Weighs a ton....

Regarding MDF chipboard comparison just get chipboard.
I used MDF for my kitchen boxes and it was nightmare to paint it, it would be better if I did white melamine and then painted parts that are visible to colour that wife asked.

Go to your local shop give them dimensions and they will cut and edge it within few days, assembly maybe 2-3 hours.
(I built two with my son few weeks back)

Locally the best I have is Buildit , they don't do edging. They were out of stock on the 16mm Melamine, R50 a cut and R200 for delivery down the road. Meh!
I will need to check Pietermaritzburg.

But I think this is the best solution.

Where the heck do I get pine boards?

They only have pine (laminated) shelving and shutter/C grade ply board here and it is bent more than my great grandmothers scoliosis.
Builders, Chamberlains, Cashbuild, Leroy Merlins?

I thought you wanted to buy? Something like below but there are lots of other places as well.

If you really want to build ive used pine shelving in the past although not the cheapest.

Slight misunderstanding. I don't mind buying either but those pine cupboards are ugly. I'll do a search if they have something a bit more modern. They generally also don't have drawer runners and just wood slides.

I know I am picky lol. We have a Mistry's making pine cupboards but the workmanship is horrible, disgusting.

I could go with the laminated shelving, it's just a bit thick and heavy. 16/18mm max would be great.
