Johannesburg - A gang of robbers shot dead the owner of a jewellery shop and wounded four other people in a robbery at Northgate Mall in Randburg on Monday, Gauteng police said.

Four robbers robbed the NWJ jewellery shop in the mall, said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

"While fleeing from the scene the robbers shot a woman in the passage of the mall."

Two security guards who were chasing the robbers were also shot.

"In the parking lot another man was also shot," said Dlamini.

Earlier on Monday Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said five people were shot, among them a pregnant woman.

Dlamini said that by 11:15 he was still on the scene and that no arrests had yet been made for the robbery and the shooting. The mall was open and operating after the shooting.

Last week Friday a police captain was shot and killed and her husband injured during a robbery at an NWJ shop at the Carnival Mall in Brakpan.

A group of about six men arrived at the shop, held staff at gunpoint and took jewellery worth R500 000.

Ooh, I hope there's a special kind of ending in store for this lot. I hope the cops start at the knees with these bastards.
 
Apparently shooting up slows down the chase because the criminal animals know that human beings will look after the wounded before chasing after the animals:mad:

There are lots of random crime.

Easier said than done , To get armed guards is a massive expense and im sure the malls will not pay that kind of money.

I'm sure most mall are gun-free zones... ironically criminals does not seem to adhere to this... :(
 
Spineless, This reminds of the incident at the Pavilion a few years ago.
 
Maybe some of the mall customers looked like farmers, you know, khaki pants, knee high socks. Things can get very confusing for a robber when fleeing for the exit.

Sounds to me like these guys were lost.

Perhaps they should put up signs in the malls for robbers, something like: "Innocent Victims on 3rd floor next to Toys R Us."

Nope but it turned out peachy for that woman who recently put that piece of excrement in a wheelchair for the rest of its worthless life.

Yep :) And she wasn't even professionally trained, afaik anyway.
