The last couple of days have been hell. Thursday night we had a freak storm pouring down 50 - 80 mm of rain in half an hour. My flat came out unscathed but my sister's home next door didn't. I ran around like mad trying to save what I could since her roof started leaking like mad (half the roof was blown off) and then suddenly there was a river of water taking a shortcut through the house - more than ankle deep, so I just gave up. All the storm water went through the house...

Our municipality didn't think it prudent to develop a storm water system for the hill and two streets above us. The deluge of water thus had no other option to choose a direct route though our property and into the main road where a feeble drain system did nothing.

My business lower down the main road also got flooded. Had to carry 220 L water out of the hallway before being able to get into the shop. Luckily my stock didn't suffer damage aside from boxes being waterlogged.

Sorry to hear about it bro. Hope it all settles down soon ;)

What makes me so freaking mad is that the whole thing could have been prevented if the idiots in our municipality had done proper planning and implemented an adequate system to handle storm water. At worst it would have minimized damage drastically - instead they pay themselves large salaries for being unqualified, while doing the least possible work!

Sorry... I just had to rant and rave a little.

I feel ur pain buddy... this happens to us every year... not the roof off... but our house floods annually... n da council r useless...

Oh my word dude, totally feel your pain.

Reminds me of when our geyser burst last week at like 11:30 at night :(

Welcome to africa...

I feel your pain. Hope things go better soon..

Thanks guys. Just needed to vent a little. Things are slowly beginning to look better. Now I only need an easy way to get rid of all the mud and dust...
