Floop Beta Testing Thread

thanx mercurial. It's Coded in Multimedia Builder - now run the damn the thing and tell me what you would like to be changed :p

I got the updates of the images/info to work now, the problem was that my IE was using a proxy.

Can you not add an option to perhaps display the name of the movie underneath the cover? Maybe switchable for those who don't want it

So i'm Developing a Media Browser/Media Center named "Floop" (For Windows)

- Floop enables you to Browse through your Media (Movies / Series / etc) in an iPhone like manner.
- Auto Downloading of covers, and IMDB Info
- Auto Cover Thumbnail (In Explorer) Generation
- Built-in Video Player, with blu-ray support.

Please help me out here by beta testing it, it's only 2.3MB
Version 0.37 Beta: http://www.mediafire.com/?jnqbtmmnntq

I only started on saturday man, lol....

hopefully this is kinda what you wanted?

after you tried it please tell me what you wanna see in future versions, what to change, etc....

Just saw this now... What about posting it in the Softwrae and web development section??... Might be more noticable there.

Will test it a bit and let you know soon enough...

Well, to simplify things, our proxy server sits between us and the internet and asks for a username/password when connecting to the internet to log our usage etc. These settings are configured in internet explorer or firefox. Without entering a username and password and proxy server we are unable to access the net. Any application that wants to access the net must then either have its own proxy settings configuration where one can enter the details or use the settings inside the browser.

I don't think this is a priority now - most people will probably not use this feature right away, but later down the line you might get people requesting this.

The trick with these kind of programs is that most all of them does one thing well but generally ignores the rest of the categories:

1) Single (AVI/MPG/DIVX/DAT what ever format) file on disk - obviously very important

2) 2 or more AVI files making up one movie on disk (think 2x700MB AVI's you sometimes get) - I think that this might be less important since one can easily concat the two files

3) DVD on disk (the whole VIDEO_TS directory contents) - necessity I think

4) Episodes on disk - this has never been handled well by *any* one of the programs I tried, and is one of the main reasons I started coding my own.

well this one is gonna have the following categories:
movies, blu-ray, imax, series, music. possibly also games, emulators, software, photo's...and maybe a weather window.

the thing about the split avi's are - when one finishes, the other one starts.

will see what I can do to support a DVD's VIDEO_TS content in DVD drive or on local drive.

I'll add your name to the about window since you're helping quite a lot - thanks boet!

how about uploading your program ? :)

I started it in Delphi and it is NOWHERE near as good as this one lol - I have text fields for the lists and virtually no interface to speak of (only 2 forms so far). I got stuck Sunday trying to figure out how VB 2008's ADO.NET sql story works - it is so bloody complicated it is unbelievable. So I don't think it would help much :)

RE: About box COOL! :) My full name is Ruan Fourie.

I really dig the idea of launching games from there as well - since I've got hundreds compiled in one of those Dosbox game launchers (old abandonware). It'd be nice if one could have your whole PC at your fingertips :)

I've found that the setup used by this program works very very well for games http://members.quicknet.nl/blankendaalr/dbgl/

It has a spot for screenshots, and one can add links to walkthroughs, codes etc. on disk.

Maybe you can grab some ideas from there.

Keeper, can you post in the following thread please:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=144798

Hey I almost forgot about that thread! Just trying to get this thing out of Beta ASAP, and i'll post :o

RE: About box COOL! :) My full name is Ruan Fourie.

Got it.

Tonight i'll probably be making it more user friendly,
fix the popup error, when clicking on a movie with no cover,
disable scrolling on less than 14 items, and centre them properly.

Blu-Ray/Imax & Series support will be done soon.

Feeback already :) :

TESTING MACHINEs SPECS:

MACHINE 1:
intel core 2 duo 1.86Ghz processor
2GB DDR2 667 RAM
ATI Radeon HD3470 256MB dedicated (with potential further 768 MB shared memory) graphics
Vista Business Edition SP1
latest drivers for all hardware

FUNCTIONALITY ISSUES:
1. AV detects RiskTool.Win32.Squnch at application launch. While presumably a false positive (I did exclude from scanning to complete testing), thought it might be of interest.
1. Selecting other options, like music or series, does not work. Appears as though these buttons have no function attached to them.
2. Browse functionality does not work. Media and Get Covers do work though, just not sure that getting covers should work if there is no media in the 'library'. Presumably an error should be shown to the user.
3. Although the directory is selected which my movies are located in, no movies are displayed to me in the application. Surprisingly, I did notice that the application shows "1 movie" in the text at the bottom of the screen despite no movies avaiable.
4. Selecting a block in the window, throws out 2 errors concerning loading of covers and images(by selecting a block with no movie in it).
4a.It then changes screen showing movie information (no information as no movie is avaiable) and then allows me to play the movie. Possible error allowing playing of movie without an actual movie avaiable?
4b. Selecting to play the (non-existent) movie, it pops up a file dialog window and asks me to select a movie - starting directory is incorrect as I would assume the directory should be the same as the one entered when selecting the media option from the main window.
5. The movie selected does play, but not quite the same quality as when played on Windows media player, VLC or Winamp (tested to make sure on all three). For interest sake, the tested file is an avi.
6. Checking for covers and movie information seems to work, although it tells me its checking for information on 2 selected movies. Firstly, the app doesn't seem to detect any movies, and there are definately more movies than 2 in my movies folder. I also noticed that in the movies folder an Info.txt file is created, which provides information on 1 movie, but the information provided does not correspond to any of the movies I have.

Overall, looks to be a nice app, and nice work put in so far. For clarity, this was the 0.37 version (the "new" version posted above), and although I did try run the app on a different machine, I had similar issues as mentioned above.

Hope the feedback helps, and if there was something I'm missing (in getting options to work), let me know so I can help out further.
