Flor stand speakers

OK, I have found a set of Mission M73's that are about 4 years old for R1700. Is that a good buy? They are apparently in very good nick. Also, how would I test them to make sure they're OK?

DOLBY?????;)

I'm not sure of Mission myself - so don't know that model.

But a quick Google says R4,000.00 RRP when new - and used prices betweem R1,950.00-R2,500.00 .... so very good on the price ;) I just sold my AR228 bookshelf that were 15 year old for R1,000.00 - so I think you have a good deal!

I usually take a piece of music I know - and listen for any crackles, pops, distortion etc at various volume levels. I also listen to each seperately.

EDIT : YOu get the beechwood? Very attractive speakers!

Not the beachwood, the black ones to go with my lounge.

Thanks for the advice, I might ask the guy for a gurantee for a week so I can test. Mainly used for movies, media player content and a mity of music. I have a 100watt per channel Sony STR-DB940 which should power most midrange speakers.

Would you suggest anything else in the price range? Most of the stuff on AVSA is out of my league albeit very nice.

Nope - think you have an awesome set at an awesome price!

100w should be more than enough :)

Pretty sure you'll hear absolutley love them!

I will agree with Dolby. Its within your budget and they have the colour you were looking for as well, plus Mission don't make aweful speakers.

take music along that you know very, very well...I have an audition CD with 8 tracks on there from rap music to Dr. John blues and more...

Generally people that spend more the R3-4k for speakers will take good care of them with MAYBE as scratch here and there, but sonically 100%...

Thanks again guys, I currently have Missions so just upgrading the fronts and keeping the current fronts as rears and the centre and woofer will stay as well.

Thanks again, he says they're in near perfect condition.

Hmmm... you could try a place like Game... or Audio Vision - not sure where the cheap ones are :p

I mounted my surrounds directly on the wall... Still looking for a center speaker stand - which will apparently cost me R4000 :(

Sheesh, talk to Hein....what kind of centre channel stand costs R4000?! He built a great one for me at like a 100th of that price...

Sound Structures were extremley pricey when I spoke to them 4 years back :/
