FlySafair and pirated software

if you google the name of the 'last saved by" in that screenshot you get to the owner of a PR company so it looks like it's the PR company doing the pirating not FlySafair

sigh, non techs are so unaware of the digital breadcrumbs they leave all over

Hi AfricanTech

Please be very careful who you blame for illegal activities as neither PR Worx nor FlySafair use pirated software.

I trust my update below clarifies the matter.

Hello Madelain

Please note my wording - my post merely points out what the circumstantial evidence appears to be implying. I did not mention your name, nor your companies name.

Good on you to respond so quickly.

I would suggest that in future you ensure that you sanitise all documentation that goes from your company to your clients. One way of doing this is to not send word documents - convert them to pdf's first.

Once your doc has been sent out to the public, any metadata encoded therein that is easily accessible with a click or two is fair game.

Cheers

Most IT maintenance is outsourced, you probably find the company they outsource to has a downloading copy they use everywhere instead of using the clients legitimate discs, whether the client is licensed or not.

I've seen that at a good percentage of sites I've worked on.

This would only be awful PR for us, if we were actually guilty of using pirated software. In case you don't read the update below, neither PR Worx nor FlySafair use pirated software.

Madelain

I accept your response. Makes sense to me. Have a right old ear-chewing session with your artwork guy - that's the kind of thing that looks incredibly bad when sending to clients as well.

All the best...

Some people dont know where to get quality pirated software...shame.

My question is HOW THE F*** do you make a post about a company and boom, they registered and have replied to the thread on the same day, its not possible.

How do they know we made a thread about them?

Maybe someone here knows the company and forwarded it to them.

Google alerts or someone on the forum emails the link, its not rocket science.

Any company would be crazy not to have google alerts setup for them and their senior employees. As it is, that's kinda basic 101 for a PR company...

Yeah, and DJ mentioned their name "PR Worx" in one of the replies.

She does address her letter to Mybroadband though so maybe one of the mods alerted her.

But why publish a letter in doc format, really. Thought pdf was supposed to be the de-facto.

Because they encourage comments. They also don't have direct access to post to the client's website so it was in all likelihood simply uploaded by the webmaster as is. Poor communication from the CEO to the IT guys in all likelihood...
