Fnb Connect ADSL has been out for a while now. Im talking about the one where you can get a discount based on your rewards level. Is anyone using it? Hows it been? Im toying with the idea of getting it for a basic internet connection (not downloading).

This thread is relevant to my interests. Thinking of getting it for my folks. Currently Mweb premium uncapped is overkill for them.

Works fine for browsing and email. Torrents are blocked.

For most people, if you don't go on a downloading spree, its generally a brilliant account with the occasional web browsing proxy issues, but mostly it just works.

They only have IPC in JHB, but if you dont play games on local servers, thats fine too.

Generally decent, just dont expect to download too much, unless you know how to bypass the blocking.

Im using R99 incredible uncapped for my parents

I have it and works just fine for browsing and such. Even downloading the occational file and streaming should be ok. But if you use big data or try and do any "poweruser" type stuff:

My folks use less than 5gb a data a month and they youtube/browse/email/facebook etc

I'd suggest perhaps getting a cheap capped account from Web Africa

You can even sign up for a free trial for 5gb and see how that works for your folks.

I'm probably starting to sound like a fanboi, lol. But I've been with most of the major ISP's and I'm glad I re-tried Web Africa after their backbone switch to IS

No problems with my "free" 2GB capped account. Rarely use it, mainly as a test account. No restrictions that I have come across with P2P etc. Everything just works on it and works as fast as the line can cope.

Any alternatives that might offer better value at that price point? I think the FNB entry level package is still 384kb/s?

Well on my account, DC++ can't connect to hubs. Torrents doesn't start unless you start them on another account 1st to get it going.
NNTP is slow as hell, but if you use SSL it seems to work at full line speed.

Browsing and streaming is great on this account. I am currently using the 4Mbps account with 100% discount.

Still use the same ports, just have another method that I use for now. That, and I don't download as much as I used to. My usage for last month was only 190GB vs the month before that which was 307GB on FNB and the months before that on IS based accounts went far over 1TB. Also my fileserver is running out of space, and I need to save up some funds for more hard drives...they aint cheap!
