Hi guys,

I'm a bit p'd off at FNB at the moment, nothing to end a life over but had to mention this.
Last night I needed to go get cash, and at about 11'ish, I went to a FNB ATM, not working, then I went to another, not working, then I went to another, not working, then I went to another, not working, then I went to another and ended up at my 5th FNB ATM (Waterfront Petrol station) and bam, not working!

Basically, put my card in, takes forever to do anything, kicks my card out and then "OUT OF SERVICE" pops up.

So then I had to goto the nearest "non FNB" ATM to draw money, obviously now, I pay fees for drawing from a Nedbank ATM.

This was in the CPT Central area at about 11pm±

I'm going to complain to FNB and see what they say / do about this, especially since I wouldn't mind if they decide to refund me the fees from having to withdraw from a NON FNB ATM (which I hardly ever do!)

Good thing about Capitec is you can use any brand ATM for any amount and still only pay around R8 fee...

But yes, NAUGHTY FNB. Hated it when the Std Bank ATMS did that.

It appears as if this is the new standard for FNB.

We are experiencing the same problems constantly.

I drove between two towns going from ATM to ATM and getting the same results.

Then you have to use a diffent banks ATM's to get cash.

The only option is to move to a diffent bank, the only question that remains is with one.

I don't get your logic, would it not have just been cheaper to pay the extra few rand at a different brand atm rather than drive arnd to five other atms, waste petrol and frustrate yourself?

11pm and after is generally a time when banks/telcos/other service providers do work on their systems as a minimum number of users will be impacted. Perhaps they were just upgrading a system. I have never had an issue with an FNB ATM during the day. If it happens everytime you draw money, then you may have grounds to complain.

go to a garage, buy a chocolate with your debit card, but ask them for cashback aswell (make a sorry excuse that you are in a rush) so if you need R100 pay for the R5 chocolate ask them to debit you R105 and you get R100. simple as that. ive done it more times than i can imagine

+1 I don't understand it

As i stated, Capitec, you pay R7 fixed fee withdrawing at any other banks ATM...

I'm not sure how FNB do it but late at night is when a lot of the banks load updates, due to low customer volumes. I think that you were just out of luck and picked the night that they were doing changes.

I still rate that 11 is pretty early to do updates though

yoh!

what's an ATM? That's so like last century.

I do cashback at Pick 'n Pay most of the time when I need money.

This has happened with ABSA about twice. Always about 2 in the morning. ATM's out of order, ABSA card swipe machines out of order. Pretty embarrassing when having to pay a tab :o
