How much does the FNB app use? My monthly usage with the Absa app is 3.8 mb. Negligible at best.

I don't think that's really the point though, is it? Aside from not depleting your existing data, it allows you to use the app when you have none.

You could've done it since ages ago using the free USSD code.

Essential services such as banking traffic should be zero-rated as a principal. Pity this is a marketing tactic more than anything else.

The ussd was never free for me. It used to deduct airtime for each outgoing response.

There's two USSD's:

1. Simply dial *120*321# For banking, prepaid and more
2. *130*321# To top up airtime and data when you don't have airtime - this one is free

You still can't buy data from FNB for free using the USSD.

This is good - especially for things like FNB Pay which needed a data connection.
