Why does FNB need to know where I am when I'm making a payment?

Seems quite obvious from the message?

If you erratically change geo zones there’s a good chance it’s a fraudulent transaction.

Forcing location on meaning they would also get the fraudsters location.

Not everyone is out to get you, technology can and most often does get used for good.

I'm sure this will assist them with folk who get caught with phishing scams. Coupled with strange behaviour, transactions are coming from a strange location

So scammers must just use the website and not the app to not reveal their location?

What do you require to register on app again? Username, password and card number? I think most phishers probably just seek/have the web credentials.

Many transactions require both now.
Authorisation of transactions occurs in App

Yes, I can't even buy airtime sometimes without validating the transaction with the app.

If there's already an app registered, the old app must be de-authorized first,or the old app must auth the new one for dual-device scenarios
If not it's a week or 2 from connecting the new app till it can actually do any operations (and that pops up on the web when logging in that new device was added)

Thanks, good to know these things, I just use my FNB card for paying at terminals, and the FNB app and website to check balance and sometimes to play lotto.

If your last transaction was in PE, and your next one 2 hours later is in Shanghai, it will raise flags in their system.

Why, which teasers were you at? And when did they start accepting eft? I use cash, more untraceable
I’m pretty sure they can tell by my ip that I’m not in Shanghai.

I tend to agree with Bwana on this. They do not really need your location when you are using the App - your IP address and device mac address is sufficient.

Exactly
Coupla years ago i installed IpVanish and it logged straight onto a New York server, my Gmail accounts went beserk in Outlook and the accounts were frozen until i could verify on my phone that everything is alright.
After that i only chose Jhb servers for my VPN or if i had to choose another country i made sure to shut down Outlook

Only works on rooted devices afaik, and I don't think the FNB app does?

Works on my rooted Mi phone for some reason. I did contact FNB and tell them but there was no reply.
