Hey does anyone know what happens when the free 100mb fnb connect 3g data runs out, also does this only work with contract customers or does pre-paid vodacom and mtn also work?

Hey,

Once it runs out you have to recharge from your linked account. Only vodacom & MTN contract customers qualify. This includes top-up subscribers.

Firstly, it is not free. You basically only get 100mb at a discounted per-mb rate (e.g 40c/meg). When that discounted 100mb is depleted, you deplete your loaded balance at the standard FNB rate (65c/meg I think). Once your balance is depleted, you cannot surf any more until you top-up.

Bought R50 on the 1st and used about R25 when the free 100MB kicked in. After the 100MB was depleted the rand value started to decrease again. Bought another R25 yesterday and so far I've done 273MB on 3G with R21 remaining. Will calculate my c/MB at the end of the month

from what I understand, once the free 100mb reward data is used up, it will then use up your prepaid data

think you have it right above.

I initially thought you would first use the 100Mb at no cost, but I checked my account and I see that FNB deducts from your cash balance as you use data.

Also, they say it's free to call the FNB numbers from the talk app. Nothing gets deducted from your Talk account but it's +-2MB/min from your Surf account.

Not sure I understand this. When I receive the 100MB, it uses this first then uses whatever is left in my Surf account (if there is any, else I have to top-up). Look in the "Service Type" column. It should say "3G Rewards Usage".

Curious. Perhaps you get a different type of reward linked to what type of account you have with FNB. I still have a Bob-T account.

also had this problem the first time I used it .... apparently they have a fault where the first time you use the system, it deducts from both your cash and free data .... I then stopped using it for a few days and then when I connected again, all was fine and it is only using the free data

I have a platinum account. It even says

"As a qualifying Cheque Account holder you have been rewarded with 100.00 MB of Connect 3G data. You still have 8.87 MB remaining. For more information click here."

Thanks, I'll try again and see what happens.

It's definitely free.
And in answer to OP - if you have credit in your Connect account then the APN you set up carries on using data at the 59c/Mb rate. If you don't have credit then data stops working
