I've got a strange issue with my FNB connect SIM. I use it as my primary SIM and get 500mb free a month due to my rewards so I'd like to stay. A few months ago I noticed my Speedtests would be getting maximum around 5 down and always no more than 0.15 up if it doesn't time out.

My wife has an FNB connect SIM too and hers gets 30 down 10 up sitting right next to mine getting a really bad result.

I've swapped some slots from first to second (dual sim) and my afrihost SIM has no issues, gets good speed tests. I've put her SIM in my phone and it's fine. I've put mine in hers and it's slow.

I went as far as to get a new SIM and still it is slow.

Has anyone successfully been able to get a hold of any department with proper technical knowledge when it comes to FNB connect help? I'm not keen to sit and explain this to first level telephone support.

While I could deal with 5 down and maybe 1 up, even with the 5 down speed tests I can't even do a snapscan payment without it telling me I don't have a network connection. Pretty much only able to WhatsApp and Google maps manages ok - though it's probably due to most of my trips being the same route and the heavy maps images being cached.

Hi blunt

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Kindly try to purchase a Cell C SIM card and check how the connection is. Please private message us the feedback so we can investigate your query.

Will do

You are not alone. I switched 4 sims from MTN to FNB for the rewards and the story is the same. Every single sim. We cannot oprate at this speed so dropping FNB as soon as i get a chance.

While not the fastest I do get 5 to 8mbs down and 5 to 8mbs up on my FNB. I noticed on my Nokia 8 it was slow, but on my P30 Pro it's better, think the Nokia has a crap radio.

I formatted my s10e and it didn't help. A week or two ago it was suddenly fast for a few days but then back to barely usable.

MTN SIM still gets 180 down 30 up..

Waiting out cell C's move to MTN

Reviving this thread.. anyone care to share their experiences?
I enjoy the rewards, but experience the same as blunt above. 95% of the time I just get a timed out or "no internet connection" message. Airplane mode on and off usually fixes it for like 10 seconds, then it starts being unusable again.
Also a lot of times people are not getting through when calling me lately, even when my signal should be fine. Tested by trying to call voicemail, sometimes it just doesn't work, sometime it does (signal should be fine, 3 / 5 bars in this scenario).

So yeah all in all, pretty pathetic. Seems with FNB it is luck of the draw. Some people have their sims working fine, others not.

I use the FNB sim only for the free voice minutes, Afrihost sim is permanently data now, their monthly data bundles are cheap enough. Tried FNB's data this morning when I saw your post and it's still unusable - now on my S21+, my wifes S21+ also unusable on her FNB connect sim for data.

I just remember I still have a free data Afrihost sim that is just sitting in my tablet (which I never use). So I will be using that then for data in my phone as 2nd SIM. Also just realized I get 2gb of data from Afrihost for R0.00. I remember it being 200 MB, guess they upped it.

So, interestingly, since I received an FNB sim I never checked my APN settings, I just assumed it would be correct. Turns out it was on "Cell C GPRS". Only difference I could find between "FNB Internet" and "Cell C GPRS", is that "Cell C GPRS" has a proxy configured. Starting using "FNB Internet" APN, and the internet is actually working pretty good. No more timeouts and no more "no internet connectivity" message. Seems like the proxy messes everything up.

To receive the correct APN settings on FNB Connect,
*147#, option 3, option 5, option 2.

@blunt , not sure if you have tried this yet. If not, see if it works for you.

Mine's always been on "FNB Internet" unfortunately.. I did a "reset" and will see how it goes when I'm out (my house is in a cell signal practically-dead zone so it's not a good test)

FNB Connect is quite bad. I get around 8Mbps down and up (which is fine I guess), but my second sim is MTN (which I use for data) and I get 40Mbps+ and 1/3 of the latency.

Only reason I have FNB connect is for the free minutes.

Still same crap as always unfortunately, don't have any proxy on the APN, using "FNB Internet"

Worked for me after struggling for 2 years.

I can't remove the default "FNB Internet" APN and as soon as I add a new one with the APN value "Internet" it gets discarded (the new one).

It looks like the main difference is the IPv4/IPv6 settings and the MVNO type values.
