FNB - credit card replacement cost

Hi,

My CC is about to snap in HALF.

I assume the bank will try and charge me a ridiculous fee for replacement. I on principle don't wish to pay this as I already pay more than enough in banking fee's.

How do I go about getting the card replaced without having to pay their extortionate fee? I assume I can just get it swallowed by an ATM, cancel it and then the replacement is without cost?

Any idea's? Additionally is it possible to get a new card with the same card number etc so that my debit orders don't need to be adjusted to a new acc number etc?

No way around paying the new card fee as far as I know ... and that goes for every bank. You could of course close your account and open a new one, but then you have to go through the mission of updating all your debit orders
Getting a new card will not affect your account number, the new plastic will just be linked to your account. I think I paid 50rhondts when my wallet was stolen a couple of months ago

Not every bank. I've gotten my Virgin Money CC replaced countless times without being charged :)
 
Easiest to replace the CC cost free, call the your bank's fraud line, say card got stolen. They will send you a new one free of charge. I know it is unethical, but at least the phone call costs a lot less than paying for a new card. I have done this in the past.
 
To replace your credit card at FNB will cost you nothing.

Cheque card is not free ,unless it got stolen. (Free on PC and PW packages even if it did not get stolen)

I showed the woman the rip in my CC at the branch ,she ordered a new one for free.
 
I had an ABSA Debit Card that was delaminating and had to pay R60 to have it replaced, only to pay another R60 when it expired and was replaced a few months later. One of the many, many reasons I do most of my banking through Wells Fargo in California and (ironically) Barclays UK, (the parent bank of ABSA). I have saved a fortune banking via foreign banks over the years, and where there is an occasional charge, it puts a spring in my step knowing that no greedy Seff Effrikan bank is pocketing my money.

You will need to wait. I lost a card once (it's probably still in the back of my cupboard SOMEWHERE) and went to my local FNB branch to have it replaced. I explained to the lady at the counter, and she said lost or damaged cards carry a replacement fee so she is rather going to but it down as stolen. She then gave me the option of having it sent to the local branch for free, or couriered to me (200m from the local branch) for R150. I elected to collect from them and didn't pay a cent.

I know this could be considered fraud and I don't condone it, it wasn't my idea to say it was stolen.
 
I think about 4-5 working days.
The courier will have to deliver it from Gauteng to Cape Town (your bank in CT or a physical location where you will be).
But you have to tell them very clearly your intentions. I told my bank that I wanted it delivered to the bank. In the end they delivered it to my work :-( Yes wanted a copy of ID etc.

I reported fraud on my card last week on a Sunday evening, card was cancelled and the replacement ready for collection 2.5 days later at a branch by Wednesday 12pm.

If one banks with FNB and one has Platinum or higher, then card replacement charges are zero, IIRC, don't quote me on that!
 
I lost my wallet yesterday.

Just got off a call with premier banker who confirmed there will be no charge for replacing my credit and cheque card. (FNB)

Delivery to my nearest branch will take up to 5 days but he has also requested it to be done ASAP.

You must be a mighty swiper. Just so we know what you're talking about, could you take a picture of the card. To be sure take one of the back too... :whistle:
 
I refuse to pay for a new credit card, how the cashier swipes the card is out of my control - in the past have had 2 cards replaced free of charge.
 
I would push this through under a "warranty" of sorts.

It's not an unreasonable expectation that a card should physically last the 2-3 years it's valid for.
 
Card swallowed by atm machine equals free card replacement.
