FNB downtime causing payment problems

FNB clients complain about payment problems with FNB credit and debit cards, FNB helpdesk confirms that they are experiencing issues

Somebody won't have a job Monday,

Had to go do our weekly shop just now, just says rejected, had to go draw cash just now.....

Really Fnb should put out a media report, or a push message on the app.....

People might be more forgiving if they were informed....

FNB had issues the past 2 months. I made about 5 online purchases where the transaction showed unsuccessful at different retailers, but the money went off the account. Had all my money refunded, except Ster Kinekor who told me refunds could take up to 3 months to complete.

I stopped using FNB card for online purchases and now only use Standard and Absa cards. FNB is too busy with their mobile phone sales, they do not have time to attend to banking services anymore.

Lol, I haven't used FNB the past month and a half at all, due to the problems with online payments.

That being said, if you walk into any shopping center, you will see that small chinese shops selling cheap cellphone covers, accessories and a couple of second-hand cellphones. This is exactly what FNB had become. They are that small cellphone shop trying to attract as many people they can so that they expand in the market. I doubt they care about banking any longer.

Ah this would explain why my CC was declined 4 times at a restaurant and working the 5th time..

All the banks are busy with new SWIFT changes coming into effect sometime soon. Probably a release that went wrong.

Still, if you work on a critical system like credit cards etc that requires 24/7 uptime then this is unacceptable. The junior who made the mistake should be reprimanded, the guy who approved the change should be given a written warning and the testing staff be fired/made an example of.

/Looks at Capitec and Virgin Money cards in wallet. Looks at old dormant FNB Platinum Cheque card right at the back.

/Chuckles to self...

Couple of weeks back it was SBSA, how many accounts do you need to have to be unaffected?!
If the Data Network providers are not working then it could be all the Banks. I remember the Standard Bank issue a couple of months back, it was a big problem for the merchants, considering neither the Data Network Provider or Standard Bank were reachable on a weekend. It is quite daft running a system that works on retail sales which peak over weekends not to have extra staff monitoring the network.
Earlier today we received Declined Messages on our Credit Card Machine for FNB Cardholders with a Response Code 22.

Usually at the end of the month these things happen and always over a weekend, notably between 11h00 and 14h00, peak shopping hours which in my opinion points at a stressed network.

/looks at eBucks

Exactly the reason I went to Checkers. 15% back is a massive bonus. Especially when you use those eB to buy Makro vouchers at 40% off. 2 x R5000 Vouchers coming up after next allocation for only R6k worth of eB.

But got to the front of the queue and was forced to pay cash due to it being offline.

Not ideal but it is the first time I'm affected by something like this.
Unlike our Standard Bank business account. They seem to be down more than any other bank.

At Checkers Liquor last night my transaction timed out so they did it again. Got two smses. They claim it will auto reverse one of them. Unfortunately FNB's credit card transactions are 2-3 days behind so I can't confirm it. Didn't get a reversal sms.

// Sit back reading this post and sipping on a Glenfiddich 40yo purchased from Makro this morning on my Standard Bank business card
