FNB downtime causing payment problems

Hmmmm...... hate to be the one pointing out spelling mistakes.

embarresing should be embarrassing

I must say one thing that's been lacking from FNB vs Nedbank I was with before is stability.

Had many card issues and OTP's not being delivered or Internet Banking not being available at random.

Nedbank's downtime was always scheduled and never a surprise.

Not good. Couldn't buy some items yesterday and had to use my backup card

Had this happen a few times with FNB. Land at Dubai and then the credit card doesn't work there, when you call them they are doing maintenance and say that people should be sleeping and not shopping at that time.

All the banks are busy with new SWIFT changes coming into effect sometime soon. Probably a release that went wrong.

Still, if you work on a critical system like credit cards etc that requires 24/7 uptime then this is unacceptable. The junior who made the mistake should be reprimanded, the guy who approved the change should be given a written warning and the testing staff be fired/made an example of.

FNB is in year end change freeze. I highly doubt a change was put in that caused this.

So is Standard Bank and we're still releasing because of regulatory changes. But you might be right, most of Standard's downtime has been due to data centre and hardware failures. Then again, if it was a hardware issue you'd see more than just credit cards become unavailable.

Not really, visa interface could be on completely different infrastructure to mainframe or online...
