I noticed recently that my monthly Ebucks earned dropped drastically after July and decided to investigate. I Followed up on the online banking page where I could see the ebucks earn details and noticed that my points earned towards ebucks dropped from about 850 every month to only 250 for the months since July. I phoned them and they told me that the rules changed since July. Apparently having a homeloan with FNB used to give you extra earn points, as well as using online and cellphone banking. Since July they decided to remove the extra points that you earn from those two channels. :(

So I went from getting more than a R100 worth of Ebucks every month to less than R30. AND they decided to up the monthly account fees from July onwards. WTF. What a shame.

I'm very dissapointed in FNB. To think that I used to be a big Ebucks ambadasor and recommended FNB to everybody...

Shame on you FNB. Rather use the money youre wasting on that TV add bragging (thanking their staff) about FNB's achievements and put it towards better benefits/rates for your clients.

Well I dont pay for Ebucks either. But I do pay monthly bank (cheque) account fees. And FNB had no trouble increasing this monthly cost while at the same type removing a valuable method for many to earn ebucks.

I knew the FNB deal was simply too good to be true and would start reversing itself when they had won over enough clients.

That's how the cookie crumbles.

Moving the goalposts... that's why most of these loyalty reward schemes are just scams.

I learnt one thing in the last few months, stop trying to earn ebucks, smart shopper points etc. Rather stop wasting money and creating debt and start spending money more wisely, then you will realise that all these things are such a waste of time and that you have more money by spending it better.

I'm gonna disagree on the smartshopper points.
I get an average of R600 a month back on those.

You're definitely doing something wrong. Mine has stayed the same through out.

Scams ? Too good to be true ? Wtf are you guys on about ?

FNB gives you money in return for 2 sms's to your phone every week. Other than that they hiked the monthly fee on a gold account from R92 - R97 p/m, what is reversing itself ?

Also, they don't have me jumping through hoops to scoop up my rewards, just use a card instead of cash. That's it.

And u probably spend much more (on interest & bank charges ) trying to get to 6000eBucks.

I said smartshopper points, not ebucks.
My bank charges are R120 or so per month. Interest - well that's not relevant here. Since you don't earn ebucks or smartshopper points on debt.
Smartshopper points come from Discovery Vitality status and using my credit card - for grocery and household shopping - which I have to do regardless of where I bank.

Been doing smartshopper since the beginning of august this year- and have earned 121126 smartshopper points. Pretty sure it's 1 point = 1 cent? So that's a fair whack back IMHO.

I agree. What's the use of points when you are getting shafted with higher prices on everything.

You'll pay the higher prices regardless. May as well get something back.

FNB have changed the rules and for many people the rewards are now much less than before. Obviously if they keep this up they'll eventually be no better than any of their competitors.

You don't have to buy anything more than you normally would.

How the hell are you doing that??? It took me 18 months to get R350?? I now don't shop so much at pnp and rather checkers as its cheaper and the smart shopper points are not worth that much to me!! You must be spending a small fortune at pnp to get those points so fast?...lol, clearly I'm not a very smart shopper then!! :p

Makes an enormous difference. And from next month I'm on diamond so it multiplies by 10...

So that is 10c back on every Rand before the multipliers? My only success story from smart shopper was when my boss asked me to go buy 2 cases of JW Red and I got triple points on it!
