FNB expands countrywide support for QR code payments

Pretty cool feature tbh. Both Zapper and Snapscan are supported.

Seems so. I still see them on almost every business counter and restaurant bill. You get better rates than credit card payments and don't need to cough up for a machine.

It's an old school system, but if it makes digital payments more accessible to very small businesses then I fully support it.

Think it was my wife that told me if you pay a monthly sub to Zapper you get discounted rates. Affects only sellers so whatever :p
 
It's safer than tapping/inserting/swiping a card, no?

Less chance of card cloning?

Likely a big money maker for merchant services as if it’s FNB account to FNB account they can bypass quite a bit pending credit or cash and if user acc FNB.. but still charge for it

What rate do you pay?

I have assisted numerous local businesses with eCommerce stuff and seen their POS systems. 3-3.5% is very normal for card transactions, incl. merchant fees.

So paying fees along a scale of 2.7% to 2% seems very competitive to me, especially considering that it's mostly very small businesses that rely on it the most. It's not like these businesses can just grab outstanding credit card rates at the drop of a hat.

Interesting. I thought that Snap Scan and Zapper charged higher % fees but work for very small businesses by avoiding the monthly machine fee.

It beats handing your credit over to someone to clone your card, or waiting for the waiter to bring the credit card machine, or having to carry cash at markets where they only accept hard cash or SnapScan.

Wish it was more prevalent. Been around for 7 years, but take up has been too slow in my opinion.

Most of the banks use a QR Code Aggregator, so it does a round trip before it hits Zapper. Paying with the SnapScan App, Zapper App or MasterCard App is direct access so its super quick, especially Zapper.
