FNB makes its move into telecoms

Wtf? You're such an idiot.

So, I guess you are happy being ripped off. It does not matter who is selling the gig - FNB, Telkom, MWeb, etc. it still remains the same gig and a price of R69 a gig is very expensive. We should be paying a tenth of that.

Well i bought a GB now, going to WoW test it tonight to see if its really unshaped or not and to see what latency I get.

Great price but there HAS to be a catch somewhere, i believe its got to do with the speed. I mean what adsl is it, 128k, 256,512 or 1mb. i dont want to pay a 12month contract and get speeds of say 20k at tops.. I think they should specify that somewhere, however it is a good deal so far! There is going to be more amazing price drops like this, the closer we get to July 9th when seacom is up and running, the more the better deals are going to POOF out of nowhere like this one!

No, he is not an idiot, he is a moron.

You are both morons and idiots! he is correct. Ok look, yes the price has dropped dramatically and i am SOOO HAPPY but 69 a gig is still way to expensive! However i do understand that they cant go from offering R200+ per gig to R5 a gig overnight, it has to drop slowly. I lived in europe for 8 years and i payed R140 a month for uncapped and i was downloading anything that came to mind! I was downloading +30Gigs+ the last month i was there i downloaded top gear and that alone was 25gigs for a few seasons. Truth is, when seacom is complete, it will drop to around R35 a gig and my estimation is by next year may it will be around 4-8 rand a gig where most subscribers will be paying about R250 a month to telkom or whoever it is for uncapped....

I got an account, now what to ping to test the latency....

Very impressed with how easy it was to setup, everything linked to my account in seconds and I'm able to surf.

It isn't speed as the speed is purely dependant on the line you have from Telkom. So it depends on what what line you are renting from Telkom, FNB doesn't have any control over this...

Drop your service fees and concentrate on your core business dammit.

Absolutely nothing wrong with their core business. I've been a client of them for almost 10 years now and I've only received good service. Nothing wrong with their core business...better than most other banks.

I too am a FNB customer and have always been satisfied with there service until last week.

I wanted to move my home loan from ABSA to FNB and they want me to pay R4000 to move my loan, ridiculous, as they will make that 4k back within the first month.

One would think with worsening economic situation, businesses would want all the business they could get.

Anyways Ill just stay with ABSA for now.

oh and as for FNB's ADSL product, isnt web africa R70 per gig on prepaid, Granted FNB is unshaped or so they say.

With only 10mbps initially whats going to happend with they get more customers?

Marvelous speed I can say, way better than telkom.

Not really impressed with the speed, the same as my shaped account. latency still there.

Not WoW... just general surfing.

It's getting better the more I use it strangely.
HTTP & FTP are used for general browsing and get priority over other protocols on a shaped account.

Try other protocols, like P2P/torrents, to see whether the FNB connection is unshaped.
