ja, ABSA tried this years ago... and has now sold off their internet division to Vox.

FNB... we are waiting for you to process our application for a re-advance... you said you could do it in 5 working days, but it has been nearly ten so far and we have heard nothing.

Why are you borking around with this crap... when you don't even have enough staff to fulfill your main duties?

Didn't Absa do this sort of thing a while ago? And what happened of it?
I know ABSA offers (offered?) internet access but did they offer VOIP too?

BTW - r69 per gb unshaped compares favourably doesnt it?

I could kick them in the a.ss. Someone needs to take a hammer to their heads as these corporates are so #@*$^&)#$@ stupid!!!!!!!!

You can dress a monkey up in a hundred different costumes, its still a monkey.

I think their solutions, whilst nothing too different to what's currently available in the market, look quite appealing.

- unshaped
- 12 month bandwidth rollover
- free e-mail through google (presumably google apps for domain?)
- can purchase top up/pre-paid cap at R 0.069 (favorable price)

- once off activation fee of R69 (wtf, scrap that - forced to pay for an initial gb)

Well 6.9c per MB regardless of bundle size for unshaped bandwidth is cheap. And a 12-month roll-over is also impressive, or am I missing something?

I dont think that is a big problem, you get a 1 gigs data for it and it rolls over for 12-months. Who would use less than that in a year?

This is pretty impressive. I don't think the R69 fee is bad at all since it is given back to you in 1GB cap. Sure beats R299 cellphone sign up fees and so on with no benefit to you.

Wtf... The other day I needed to go into the bank but the queues were insane for bloody 2010 ticket applications. Plus the service from them hasn't been that great lately anyway... Now this as well. Nice price but start a new company and finance it don't try and do 2 things at once...

sure, it's only R69 and it's not the worst idea, but why force it upon your customers?

Cheaper pricing is all well and good, however do they have the processes to deliver the services. It is a bank after all, and I dont think they invested a hell of a lot of money in this stuff with the current economic climate.

So my question is, whose "white label" offerings are they selling? They have certainly negotiated a FAR better rate than anything else out there.

Are they secondhand? ALL LIES bandwidth is a thing telscum made up... S.A's traffic is so low but buying the equipment is just to much of a effort for them, we don't need more ISP they all useless IMO we need fix Land lines for ADSL cheap and Neotel is failing and telscum owns the lines that FNB is going to use and "voip" is free last time I checked any one hear of a thing called skype O_O? R70 a Gig is "belaglik"

Looks decent, I'm gonna sign up once I've used up my cap

Edit:
Well compared to my axxess shaped it's not really that cheap, I can buy prepaid data at about the same price.

It look pretty good, but FNB's current banking service is pathetic. As mentioned by others, they need to focus on getting their core service right before branching out to other things

At least there are new players entering the market. Fine their pricing is not the grandest, but for the most part, people with FNB accounts can start to have access to broadband.

Change is here, although slow, its better than nothing.

FNB innovates in the Telecommunications market

Official Press Release:

First National Bank (FNB) today announced the launch of FNB Connect, a new innovation that will enable its customers to save up to 50% on their telephone and Internet costs.

FNB Connect offers online Voice (Voice Over Internet Protocol) and Data products that provides customers flexibility and control over their spend, resulting in FNB consumers saving significantly on communication costs. FNB Connect is a pre-paid easy to use offering with no contracts or penalties.

In the current economic climate, consumers are looking for ways to save money and FNB is challenging the status quo by providing voice calls and data at affordable rates.

“FNB is the first South African bank to enter this space, by offering competitively priced call rates,” says Michael Jordaan, FNB Chief Executive Officer. “We shall always remain competitive and we will continue to offer the best prices to our clients,” adds Jordaan.
“FNB has always been at the forefront of innovation having already created FNB’s messaging service, inContact and the bank’s unique Cellphone Banking offering. FNB Connect is yet another step in fulfilling our brand promise of helping our customers,” says Carmen Roux, FNB Connect Chief Executive Officer.

FNB Connect provides a range of “Talk” and “Surf” products. “Talk” products will enable FNB customers to reduce their telephone call costs both in cellphone and landline usage.

FNB Connect can be easily accessed on a PC or cellphone via a free software application developed by FNB (“Digital Phone”). This enables calls and SMSs at low rates and IM (instant message) for free, as well as international calls for as little as 31c.

With FNB Connect’s “Surf” product, ADSL users are able to purchase prepaid data and carry over data for up to 12 months.

“Companies that will thrive in the current environment are those that find creative ways to add value to their customers while integrating global trends. We believe FNB Connect provides this offering,” adds Roux.
