FNB Online Banking back to normal, says CEO

Am definitely not making excuses for them, FNB's online banking leaves a lot to be desired in general, but I'm guessing they just struggle as much as every other employer to find decent skilled IT people in this country ... I think everyone's just feeling the strain. I've noticed lots of technical problems with Vodacom's systems lately (for example) and I was also wondering if it's a similar thing (or maybe the new CEO is just not that great). The tiny number of people who are really good are either overworked or emigrate, while the majority of our graduates suck (and no I don't even mean the AA ones, I mean the supposed 'best of the best' ones). And it's not getting better. Combine the increased emigration since last year's electricity and other problems with the increasingly horrible and lazy quality of our graduates and it adds up to a problem. I recently heard a statistic given by the dean of a major SAn university that the *top* 5% of graduates here are about the same level as the *average* university student in Singapore. I'm an IT manager and from what I've seen can definitely believe that. Guys here just don't seem to understand that you have to work really hard and hold yourself to high standards as found elsewhere.

Then again hiring policies at companies in South Africa favors the bullshi$%#rs instead of the able!

What scares me as that a huge chunk of the people I graduated with (engineering) are working for CSIR/Denel etc. Which sucks - they are being subsidized by tax payers to do the most pointless things (don't throw the "we need research" card at me --- these organizations are not very effective at it) . But the biggest problems is that they keep these people from the private sector.
