Hi all,

I recently wrote some Python scripts to scrape my FNB bank balances (inspired by this bitshiftza/fnb-api: Pull account balances and transactions from FNB online banking. (github.com)).

I started realising that the website's "pending" transactions for my Fusion account is very different than the app. I know FNB wants everybody to rather use their app than the website, but this just looks like a pure bug.

Anybody else?

And of course it isn't even close to the "Outstanding Card Authorisation" amount found under "Detailed Balance":

OK, started chatting to the support agent on FNB online banking. He figured out that the website doesn't show virtual card transactions (Pizza Perfect's app stores the card's CVV number and asks you to verify it, so it doesn't work with virtual cards since they rotate - that's why I have to use my physical card there).

Putting me through to Digital Banking Support.

OK I'll just post this for whoever is interested in this:

Thank you for your patience sir. It seems there is in deed a bug with the
system updating.
The Virtual Card team is aware of the incident and is currently
investigating the cause

Thank you for bringing it to our attention, but it appears the Virtual Card
team already caught wind of this as it is affecting other customers as
well.

According to the Virtual Cards department:
"We have discovered an issue where virtual card transactions are not
being cleared from pending balances when they are presented (settled
by merchant). This issue has an impact on account balances, as
transactions continue to appear as pending (the amount shows an
outstanding credit or debit).

"These transactions may continue to display as pending even though the
balance has already been adjusted"

So the matter is being looked into sir and it will be resolved as soon as
they (Virtual Cards department) finds a suitable solution.

Doesn't quite sound like my bug but hopefully this should resolve all of it.

First time I’ve had issues with the Virtual Cards - only thing that changed was that I migrated from a FNB Fusion Account to a RMB Current Account.

I've already spoken with the team of bankers, but they're unable to view pending transactions on the Virtual Card. The Online 3D secure team, on the other hand, can see banked Virtual Card transactions but not Pending ones.

I was advised to reach out to the Disputes department, for them to view the Pending VC transactions, but they couldn't assist either.

The disputes team suggested I email my banker so they can escalate it to their admin department or forward it to their line manager.

This is to aid me in getting a breakdown of the “Current Pending Virtual Card transactions” for my account: xxxxxxxxxx, and subsequently discuss the dispute and potential reversal/release of these amounts with me.

I believe an approximate amount of R4K is being held, but I'm uncertain about the reason, this amount has been Pending for about 3 weeks now.

Would be able to share who gave you this response? As in your Personal Banker, Suite of Bankers or another department. And possibly share their contact details as well.

As per my last message above I don’t seem to be having luck.

I’m waiting for my Personal Banker to get back to me with an answer still as well.

Seems like this is the issue I’m experiencing! Very frustrating.

This was just via the online secure chat - didn’t escalate it any further. I am travelling internationally atthe moment, but I will contact my banker when I get back about it.

sure getting API access into FNB systems would clear up any doubts,
doubt the Chat support can help there,

how do some of the 22seven and personal Finance apps get your account details?

That’s insane. Because no one could give me an answer clear like yours. Everyone was very confused!

Ended up copying your respond (the one from your banking suite) to share with my Banker to assist in trying to find a solution.

In the meantime I think I might just cancel my VC cards? And just use the physical one to doge these issues going forward.

However now it’s just about getting the current “Pending” money reversed back to my account!

ebendl did you come right with getting your “Pending” money back?

Reply from my Banker,

Please note that we have created a case to our service suit department for them to assist with this and refer to the relevant departments.

I have also called the 3D secure team, who then confirmed that they’re experiencing issues on virtual card transactions.

They’ve escalated on their side regarding the issue with duplicate transactions, these will be resolved.

I wasn't particularly aware of pending money that never went through - although who knows, it is a pain in the butt if you can't see the pending money in a nice format (seeing it on the phone isn't a nice format).

I can also confirm that:
- Credit Card transactions do not show the pending transactions ANYWHERE on the web - only on the app. No difference between virtual or actual cards.
- The Credit Card pending transactions on the app do add up to the Outstanding Authorization amount shown on the web
- I still get the same problem with Fusion transactions - only the physical card transactions show on the web, but not the virtual cards one.
- The pending Fusion transactions on the app DO NOT add up to the outstanding card authorization value on the web

For somebody taking care of my monatary transactions, FNB sure does a bad job about keeping track of the transactions (or at least, showing them all to me).

Was told that this should be resolved. All duplicate “Pending VC Outstanding Authorisations” were returned to my account and happy days.

I specifically checked in to see if I should delete all my Virtual Cards and only use my physical card to not have this mess again.

But was assured that the fix was completed and I could use my Virtual Cards and if these issues returned just to contact the team.

So this month as my monthly debit’s came off my Virtual Cards I’ve now had the same duplicate transaction occur…. Fml. Reached back out to the team for 3D Secure to assist me and in the mean time I’ve deleted all my Virtual Cards now.

Besides my migration from FNB to RMB - the only other thing that changed was the fact that I moved from a FNB Fusion Account to a RMB Debit Account.

Now I’m wondering if this had something to do with it? As my wife moved from FNB Fusion to RMB Fusion and hasn’t had any issues.. like I’ve had with these duplicate Virtual Card transactions??

The "Pending" tab on the FNB website still doesn't show any of the virtual card pending transactions :(

Nope it doesn’t!!

And none of the suite of bankers, or your private banker can see these transactions either.

It has to be escalated to the 3D Secure team, only they deal with the Virtual Card transactions.

Don’t get me wrong. I love FNB - but it feels like the established older companies are really struggling with integrating newer technologies with their older systems.

I have run my credit card account into the red due to this sh*t.

Very convenient bugs for FNB....
F#$ knows how much funds has been lost behind the scenes as well.... payments not properly clearing etc..and balances not updating properly... Fark knows I dont have the time to audit my bank account but it looks like it might come to that!

so you're saying that all of the virtual card transactions are "seperate" on the system and therefor hidden from the website, service suite people and the private banker (who never responds to my queries in any case).

But somehow they managed to get it in the app??

I'm guessing you don't use the app much? They show up in the app under pending under my credit card.

As far a I know they also just scrape the site, so they probably can't get pending transactions (for Virtual Card transactions at least) either.
