I know there's several threads on here that asks "is it worth it" but I can't really see any "Platinum vs Private Banking" threads or blog posts detailing what exactly the differences are or why it would be beneficial.

The only reason I am considering going to Private Banking is because I will (once again) be allocated 1 person who takes care of me instead of this "pool of consultants" BS they did with the Platinum users after a while.

I'd also be interested in lower interest rates in my credit cards. FNB gave me something ridiculous like 29% when Virgin Money charges me around 16%

I've been wanting to do a balance transfer and couldn't get that to work because of idiot "pool of consultants"

29%... :wtf:

I've got Platinum and my interest rate is more or less 18% if I'm not mistaken. Never had issues with the pool if consultants either, but I use them like once or twice a year.

Mine is 12.5%... :p

It's worth it if:
  • You need regular use of a named banker
  • You travel a lot - free entrance to local and international Slow Lounge and free Priority Pass
  • You reach the capping limit for eBucks on Platinum

Higher end bank...kinda worth it for a (slight) decrease in annoyance factor.

On the whole I've concluded that banks are a flippin hassle as a rule unless you happen to get a good pvt banker allocated.

8.25%...:p (Not FNB though)

15.15% on straight

I see I have the option to "upgrade" to private client as well :wtf:

Well worth IMO, you'd be surprised the times you need to phone a consultant to get random documentation and the 24 hour availability is working great for me. Plus the assigned banker seems a lot more knowledgeable/experienced than the Platinum one I had.

No credit card, so I cant offer you a comparison there

May just be for a Petro card.

Credit Card.....meh. Paying an extra R200pm for not using the extra slow lounge and not calling the reward banker dude, I dunno. Have other things to worry about like what Pizza I'm ordering tonight :p

Thanks. I can always downgrade if I don't get what I want out of my personal banker. I enjoyed having a 1 on 1 with them as they usually sort me out quick. But when it got to the "pool" of Platinum bankers, Peter doesn't know what Paul said/promised.

At the end I was just signing documents to get a credit card and afterwards realized the ridiculous interest rate they put on, which wasn't what was discussed. Nor was my straight or budget the figures. They basically just smeared off a cc on me even though I had very specific intentions behind it and very specific requirements they had to fulfill first.

So if an actual private banker could organize that crap and not BS me, awesome

I live close to the airport, so I can pop in there a few times a month as an "outing" :D
