FNB takes banking to Facebook

Gives whole new fraping possibilities here...
 
Now that's some pretty cool innovation right there. I like the direction FNB is heading...
 
Sorry, that sounds nice and all... but I barely trust Facebook as it is. I only tolerate them so that I can maintain contact with friends and family around the world.
There are so many privacy violations, rogue applications and hoaxes on Facebook, I would seriously not ever consider bringing my banking anywhere near that cesspit!
 
What Gary said - besides, whats the point? you can do all this on the fnb website anyway? why bring in another website account that can be hacked, another password that can be breached, or forgotten...why?
 
i'll pass, i'll use fnb website, my iPad App and cellphone banking, facebook i don't trust my account was once hacked
 
Cool - not gonna use it. If I'm already on the internet I'll just go to their website which I trust a bit more than FB. And if I am on my cellphone, well....
 
The only transactional bit appears to be in the form of airtime. I like that FNB are making banking more accessible - it is the future of banking...
 
they should add another feature - buy lotto numbers on your Twitter! That would be even more redundant!

Nevertheless, even if the rest is only informational, I don't want anybody else having access to that information.
It's just too risky.
Hell, I won't even allow third party programs like Yahoo News to access my FB profile.
It's just crazy, why can't they just put all that stuff on their website, then I can just open another tab in my browser and log into the official bank site and have access to all that stuff.
How much more accessible does it need to be? There comes a point where it goes beyond access into the realm of unnecessary risk.

I'm one of those who has a permanent bookmark to internet banking on a bar in my browser. However what I see is innovative in the sense of the direction they're going. I don't see banking remaining static in the website space - it will certainly become more social over the coming years, from making and accepting payments to one-swipe e-commerce. This is a step in that direction.

I believe that the security will advance as we do. For a long time people were schit-scared of online banking for the same reasons...
 
Possible doors to open in the future.

  • Pay your friend (like geopayments, but instead of your location, you select a friend on your facebook account)
  • Request money from your friend, for those days you are broke and need to ask friends :P

and my 1000th post :D!!

Someone is seriously going to get burned.Why?if you are online already why not just use(new tab) the official banking channel.I foresee tears, but at the same time give congrats to FNB for being so innovative, but this one not my cup of tea.

Think you nailed it there, I doubt they will open it up to full banking anytime soon with FB security being an issue, but for airtime and small purchases (maybe EB for FB) I can see it being useful. Most people here don't realise how kids are completely addicted and use it for everything (FB that is).

Why not simply fund a "facebook account" via eft and let there be no interaction whatsoever between FNB accounts and Facebook app-wise?I fear a hack on facebook might compromise other not so tech savvy users i.e.phishing attacks,especially on a active platform like facebook.I just feel a secure banking site should have it's own protocols which should be accessed directly and voluntarily by the user and not via some "automated" app.
