FNB to sell OnePlus 5

They are crazy at this price....
MBB new partner content provider Gearbest has it for <R9k
 
Oneplus 5 has been all but discontinued, surely they should be punting the upcoming 5T?

Yeah it's weird. If they actually have stock of the OP5 I wonder where it comes from. The device has been out of production for ages and out of stock in almost all locations it's sold at. Not to mention it's just super dishonest to offer the device when its successor goes on sale in around a week for the same price.

Personally I'm in the market for a OP5 and prefer it to the 5T as I want a front side finger print reader (phone lies on my desk 90% of the time).
I also think the larger/higher pixel display of the 5T might negatively impact the battery life.
Think those are the only differences or did I miss something?

Well you don't need to convince me - I love my OnePlus 5. There are quite a few advantages over the 5T:

- infinitely lower risk of OLED burn-in due to not having on-screen navigation buttons.
- more usable screen real estate as extra screen space on 5T is not quite as big as entire lower bezel of 5.
- even if above is comparable, off-screen buttons more spacious than on-screen ones.
- videos, apps and games always display properly with 16:9 aspect ratio.
- as you said, nothing beats fingerprint reader on the front.
- you never have to swipe for the navigation buttons to appear, so home button always available to instantly exit apps.

This is bullschit. Not my S8+ or Note 8 have had this problem. why would the 5T?

It will still display properly, just not fullscreen, what's the problem with that?

This is only for apps that want to use the full screen, like games and movies. I would rather have more screen than bigger bezels, no?

Not sure why you're calling my post bull**** when you could just Google. The S8, Note 8 and Pixel 2 XL have had many complaints of burn-in, and even Apple has warned that OLED's can experience problems like burn-in. There's no denying that having an OLED display without on-screen buttons is at much lower risk of burn-in.

The point of the bezel size was that Android loses screen real estate to navigation buttons, so the extra space on the 5T mostly isn't usable space.

The spaciousness was about the luxuriously large amount of space in the lower bezel for the navigation buttons, compared to the relatively cramped on-screen alternative.

Having letterboxed apps, games and videos on a 18:9 aspect display isn't great. That's my whole point. Everything looks more natural on a 16:9 display.

And your last point repeats an earlier one I made. The extra real estate is mostly not useful due to on-screen navigation buttons. It's debatable whether it's just better to have a more natural aspect ratio, nice big off-screen navigation buttons and a fingerprint reader on the front. And I definitely don't agree that there's a problem with one form of biometric authentication. The OP5 has the fastest fingerprint reader in any phone - it's awesome to use.
