Who bets that there will be a nice hiking of prices because Eskom are a bunch of useless monkeys?

First National Bank (FNB) is to spend R50-million on standby generators and Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) units at its branches nationwide in response to power outages, it said on Friday.

FNB said about R15,5-million [of the total amount] had already gone towards standby generators at 63 branches.

An additional 32 would be installed from March at a cost of about R8-million, putting FNB's total investment in generator power supply at R24-million by June 2007.

Generators have an average power supply of 220 kilowatts each, and would be able to keep a full-service branch running, including
air-conditioning, PCs, servers, routers and ATMs which consume huge chunks of power supply, FNB said.

The province with the highest number of standby generators was the Western Cape as this was where power outages occurred most often.

"With these generators running, we are able to keep branches functioning during normal banking hours, as well as ATMs that are inside those branches," says Francois Pienaar, FNB Chairperson in the Western Cape.

He said the bank was monitoring the rolling power outages closely and diverting customers to generator powered branches and to those that had not been affected. - Sapa

ABSA also were hit by this problem. ATMs all down in Cape Town. Bank closed early. Couldn't send a fax because Telkom also brought down some lines.
What a shambles!

Read in the paper ABSA was and is busy installing generators at their branches aswell. :rolleyes:
 
Wouldve been a good idea to start getting organised when the first Koeberg stuff-up hit the country.
Gas lights, gas heaters, gas cookers...the works - as I pretty much think its going to be an ongoing problem for quite a while.
