Was just wondering if anybody here has actually ever won any money by buying their Lotto tickets through the FNB website?

I play the Lotto fairly often, but have NEVER won anything via FNB. However, when I buy tickets at my local vendor, I win a bit every now and again.

Anyone else experienced this?

you make a good point.

I only ever bought lotto tickets at a local vendor just when it started out, i did win a few bob here and there.

Recently i started buying lotto tickets on fnb because its convenient - but just like you, i have never won a thing. I play a mix of quick pick, and choosing my own numbers.

Will be interesting to know if people who buy only at a vendor also strike out so often.

I always buy through FNB have won a few times. Most of the time you don't even notice it, but going through your bank statement you notice the small credits from the Lotto..

Those numbers are generated randomly, and you see the numbers, so if you haven't won through those numbers it means you had shait luck or are you also one of those people who believe that they stop sales an hour before the time to give them time to rig the balls and the machines and the presenters and the cameras and and and?

Luck of the draw I would say.

Werfie, it isn't that I believe I SHOULD win the lottery - that'd be nice, though.

It's just that I noticed I never win anything when buying via FNB; and quite often win minor amounts when buying at SPAR...

ROFL

I've been playing religiously on the FNB site for ages, both Lotto and Powerball. 2 lines of each - every draw.
I win probably every month or two, but always small amounts - R30 etc.
I have had one R400 win and thats it.

Waaay back when I used to buy the same lines at the vendor and am sure I used to win more often. But I'm too lazy to do it now, so will have to make do with the meagre winnings.
The doubt is probably just be in my head, as I'm fairly certain the vendor and FNB call the same API's when making the purchase and so unless FNB's winnings algorithm is ****, I'm probably really not winning.

Not that I think about it too much.. ;)

I've won quite a few times playing via FNB.

Biggest win was R800.

I always play the exact same numbers using the View and Replay History feature from FNB. One day they will have to select my numbers. One day!!! :D

My biggest win was R 297, and smaller amounts, more recently R30 a few weeks back.

But I never check my numbers against the winning lotto/powerball draw. I expect and trust FNB to check this and make the appropriate payouts.

I buy Powerball numbers through FNB when the jackpot is more than R20M (anything less is not worth the effort)

I have had a couple of payouts, unfortunately not R20M.

I don't understand your angle though... Did you say it as in it's just an interesting coincidence that I never win anything on FNB or I win everywhere else but FNB, there must be something sinister going on?

I've won around R300-odd before and I tend to win back most of my spend.

Me too lol, i play 3 lines of lotto (with lottoplus) and power every draw, also won a few small amounts since FNB introduced it.

They have now introduced functionality to play multiple draws (up to a maximum of 10 draws) with same numbers.
works well for me because i always forgot to play certain draws, now i can just play once a once, and works out cheaper because you only pay a single R1,50 for the 1 transaction with multiple draws, instead of R1,50 for every draw.

i normally play when i actually remember to buy before a draw but thing i have found and iv checked my statements is every time i play and request confirmation via sms with my numbers i win something be it small (biggest being R2200) but when i dont request confirmation via sms, i dont win anything... i think they screwing a few ppl on this one...

No, here and here are two places guaranteed to sell you winning numbers

Ah, I see a pattern here ... people who seem to know absolutely nothing about probability theory like to play Lotto ...

Initially, it was something sinister... I'd been having doubts that FNB were actually 'playing' the lottery on my behalf - was beginning to wonder if it wasn't just a way for me to give them money, with no return whatsoever. But based on the feedback here, I guess I'm now leaning towards coincidence - I just seem to be an unlucky bugger when I buy through FNB, is all... No harm, no foul - I'll get on with life.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback!

Don't feel bad...there was a thread exactly like this last year. I can't find the link, but the OP also felt he was not winning through FNB, but would win when he used a vendor . There were a few other people that also felt that way :)

Ok, I see. Well I guess the safest is to print your numbers generated, check them manually still and then obviously make noise if something's wrong, but I doubt that someone with FNB's stature would do that... it is South Africa of course, so checking would be safest :D

From the FNB Facebook page:

You could be one of the lucky Lotto winners who play PowerBall & Lotto using FNB electronic channels!
Last weeks PowerBall winner took home a massive R285 029 after playing their numbers on FNB Online Banking, not to mention the many others who won below R50k that has been automatically paid into their FNB Accounts!
