FNB will not drop USSD banking

Why don't you just use the app?
Dunno - something about it bothered me when I installed it a few months ago. Can't quite remember. Besides I don't really need it for anything other than electricity & the USSD works fine.

The apps are nice... But USSD is like the command-line of mobile banking.

The app writers should go look at the USSD to learn how to make things fast for the user instead of just pretty. I get annoyed in the FNB app when I have to re-enter a previously entered electricity meter number or cell number - something which works perfectly with USSD. The app is just sometimes slow (from a process perspective) to use. There are some steps to make it better but for some reason I still have to re-enter numbers all the time.

Also for some reason the Apps first page after you log in is an annoying ad instead of quick-links to frequently used actions.

So when I am in a hurry I use USSD, otherwise I will plod along in the app.

As someone who works in technology within the banking sector - USSD volumes are still more than enough to be profitable. The apps are awesome, but not everyone has a smartphone and access to data.

The thing that annoys me the most about the FNB app (at least on Android) is that when you are sms'd a OTP, the app does not automatically retrieve the OTP from the sms and validate it, you have to switch over to your SMS app, get the OTP, and then manually enter it into FNB app. If you're lucky, you manage to not log out of the FNB app while you switch over to your SMS app.

That's interesting... I can't remember ever having to enter an OTP using the app.
