Bleh.

FNB have yet to install an ATM at King Shaka International. ABSA, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec and Bidvest have all managed to, and yet FNB can't be bothered.

So I withdrew R50 to pay for parking on 2 separate occassions. Only to notice now that I've been charged R25 PER TRANSACTION! Because they can't be bothered to put an ATM at one of the biggest airports in SA? I am truly disgusted. I've paid 50% of what I withdrew, all because FNB are pathetic.

surely thats not legal? :wtf:

Withdrawing from an ABSA atm... I honestly think FNB have neglected to put an ATM there in order to clean up with "service charges".. the amount of money they must be making. Sickening.

It does depend on which pricing option you've chosen.

It's important to note that it's a fixed free (i.e.) not proportional to the amount you withdrew. It's completely daft to only draw R 50.

I'm on a Student Account. And it's one thing charging me money, it's another thing altogether failing to place an ATM in a major area... and I don't think you get much more major than an international airport. If Capitec and Bidvest can manage to, surely FNB can too?

I was at ABSA & moved to FNB because of the bank charges. I am now saving over R400/month on charges. I only draw from FNB machines & I always keep R200 in my ID book incase there is no ATM.

Gotta love the speculation and assumptions on mybb...
Also, you neglected to say which type of account you have, I chose electronic features for saving as far as possible, my bankfees are under R80/,, mostly because i NEVER draw money, not even for fuel.
Be realistic ffs

why the hell do you draw only so little? you get charged every time you use that machine man

drawing 50 bucks... lol

Ditto! ABSA screwed me so I screwed them. The R25-00 is a bit steep, but you must just learn to be prepared or to know where the closest FNB ATM is. The R25-00 is worth it if you calculate the rest of the savings.

If I draw cash then it's minimum R300, and that usually lasts a few weeks since I use my card wherever I can. Swiping at a POS is free on the unlimited option. Drawing R50 is a bit silly seeing that the R25 fee is fixed for any amount.

Regardless of how much I drew etc, the point is this: if there was an FNB ATM there (as there should be, and FNB have admitted this to me), then I wouldn't have paid anything, regardless of the amount I draw. Many people before me have complained about this issue. I drew small amounts because I am used to being able to do so, because I only use FNB ATMs. I should be able to draw whatever amount I wish to...

But anyway, FNB customer care contacted me and apologised for not having an ATM there, along with admitting that they should've planned an ATM there sooner... they are looking into reversing the service charge. I'm impressed with their customer care at least.

True that. The fact is that they still should've had an ATM there. But in that situation I would still rather have paid with my card - which is also free for me :)
Wow, that is pretty awesome service. Definitely something we do too little in this country is complain. The more we complain the better the service levels will become :)

Go post on Hellopeter.

Had a moan at FNB about a non-functioning ATM a while back and actually got a call explaning what went wrong and also how they are going to make sure it does not happen again.

This is a reason I use Nedbank, don't get shafted so much on charges.

With Dezign Save Account can withdraw from a counter for Free although there
is a restriction of ages of 18 to 24 on the account.

Although with being at an airport it wouldn't have made that much of a difference :erm:

My GF got whacked by the exact same FNB charges, R25 at another banks ATM. Not awesome !

Must say - I still definitely prefer FNB's pricing. I pay a flat rate of R84 pm on my cheque account which then includes ALL electronic transactions - drawing money (FNB ATM though), paying with my cheque card, EFT, debit orders, swiping my petrol card etc, free incontact (SMS) etc. You basically only pay additional fees if you use another bank's ATM or if you physically go into a FNB branch.

That's why I would've paid with my card at the parking meter instead if drawing money at another ATM (free vs R25)...

Well a cheque account trumps a Savings Accounts when it gets down to the nitty gritty, i.e. Rather get the better credit rating over the poor savings accounts interest rates anyway.
I'm gonna be changing soon. I guess it depends on what you as an individual does most frequently with your card, i.e. ATM, EFT.

Research needs to be done before signing up though :)

You came across a broken ATM and moaned on HelloPeter? :erm:
