FNB

Withdrawing from an ABSA atm... I honestly think FNB have neglected to put an ATM there in order to clean up with "service charges".. the amount of money they must be making. Sickening.

Remember they have to pay ABSA and Bankserv while keeping their interconnect links up and running.

While I'm sure they still making a profit, it may not be more (maybe even less) than a withdrawl from their own ATM.

So FNB customer services had to clear up the mess made by the customer who didn't know the charges for the account he signed up for? Hats off to them for doing that, I wouldn't have.

People seems to be complaining too easily around here. True, many services suck, but at least give the company fair chance before complaining! And complain about the companies mistakes, not about your own ignorance.

Well a cheque account trumps a Savings Accounts when it gets down to the nitty gritty, i.e. Rather get the better credit rating over the poor savings accounts interest rates anyway.
I'm gonna be changing soon. I guess it depends on what you as an individual does most frequently with your card, i.e. ATM, EFT.

Research needs to be done before signing up though :)
That R84 p/m is a cheque account. Nedbank sucks, my gf only gets something like 5 free transactions on her cheque account.

Nedbank does suck indeed. I'm only with them at the moment for the free transactions :) Will be switching next year, hehe.
Still amazed at how some banks can charge you 1% for cash deposits then 1% for cash withdrawals..Nice hints that they are giving to push you to go cashless.

Even more amazed at the whole reserve ratio etc and the fractional reserve lending, but I aint getting into it here! (Not attempting a hijack!)

Charging R25 to withdraw money from a ATM is just insane:erm:

Change your bank;)

Actually, the package you (and I) are on has FREE withdrawls at FNB ATMs. It is R25 at another banks ATMs though. There are other packages that charge less though (like R5) at other banks ATM's but then you don't have unlimited electronic transactions. All depends on your usage what package you choose. FNB has a lot of choices :)

Don't change banks!!!! :D

FYI most of that R25 ddnt go to FNB - went to Absa (coz u used their machine) and Saswitch (coz they had to switch the transaction between the 2 banks)..if i remember correctly FNB gets minimal amount if anything from Us-on-Them transactions

I feel your pain though, i am getting clapped by bank charges every month and i dont even withdraw that much money, i mainly use IB and CB which should have little / not costs..but alas

Bleh.

FNB have yet to install an ATM at King Shaka International. ABSA, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec and Bidvest have all managed to, and yet FNB can't be bothered.

So I withdrew R50 to pay for parking on 2 separate occassions. Only to notice now that I've been charged R25 PER TRANSACTION! Because they can't be bothered to put an ATM at one of the biggest airports in SA? I am truly disgusted. I've paid 50% of what I withdrew, all because FNB are pathetic.

or you could pay your parking with your credit card

umm no - it goes to FNB. Its his fee plan. If you choose a different fee plan, its only a couple of rand per withdrawal

I moved away from FNB 3 years ago! Very good choice ;-)

How's keeping the money in your mattress working out for you? :D

Seriously though which bank did you move to, and what's better about them?

I'm with FNB as well. Have been with ABSA and Nedbank in the past. FNB is the best for my transaction and account profile so far. I pay +/- R38 per month in bank charges with the following accounts:

  • Cheque Account;
  • Savings Account (comes packaged with the cheque account);
  • Credit card account;
  • Share account;
  • 32 day account

Must say - I still definitely prefer FNB's pricing. I pay a flat rate of R84 pm on my cheque account which then includes ALL electronic transactions - drawing money (FNB ATM though), paying with my cheque card, EFT, debit orders, swiping my petrol card etc, free incontact (SMS) etc. You basically only pay additional fees if you use another bank's ATM or if you physically go into a FNB branch.

What plan is this? I'm a little tired of being shafted R 400 pm on bank charges alone.

Maybe I must switch to FNB too...their internet banking rocks...probably the best of the lot...
