Hey guys, Here's my story, i recently finished my 1 year course at CTI and have started a Bsc CS course at UNISA. I've applied and got my FNB lifestart student acount and have been using it for about a month or two now, I'll get to my point now, I recently got offered a job and i think i'll be working there untill i finish my degree(so probably will stay at that place for 2 maybe to 3 years). The pay is 6k/pm. I was wondering should i still stick with the lifestart account or is there a better option at FNB?

Sorry i posted this in the business section but didn't get much help:$

"Better option"?

Money comes in, money goes out. Charges are levied. That's about the gist of it.

Do not fall for any debt trap products. Ever.

Stay on that account for as long as possible. Way cheaper than the other accounts with same benefits. I stayed on my student account for years after i started working just because it was so much cheaper!

I'm on a student account! Its way cheaper! There's a flat rate of R20 service fees per month (eWallets and transfer notifications excl) so that's the best part. Also I prefer having a debit card compared to a credit card. More control and it has a point of sale limit of R6500. You can also increase your daily ATM withdrawal limit via online banking. FNB is awesome except their eWallet and cellphone prepaid services have been down for like 2 weeks now!!

+1 Stay on the student account for as long as possible...

Stud account is cheapest usually. They do tend to ask for proof of student registration after a few years to keep you on the account though :)

There's according to me only one benefit of the higher end accounts: Cheque cards (normal VISA, but linked to your cheque account rather than a credit account). If you don't need this, stay on the cheapest bank account you can as long as you can! Don't fall for Gold or Silver or Platinum or whatever - it only costs more and you get higher "guaranteed cheques" (who uses cheques these days??)

the banks are sneaky tho..after 2 consecutive salaries you normally get a call asking if you are employed.and then u have to upgrade even though you are studying..blah blah blah.see how long u last:)

I use a FNB gold cheque account simply because I pay a flat rate of R92 per month and get unlimited swipes and withdrawals.

Also, I can use it to shop online at most places as it has raised numbers and a CVV at the back.

Stay on lifestart as long as possible, i pay about R29 for the acc + internet banking/mobile banking + sms notifications

Stay on the student account, if they phone you about it, just say you are a student and you have a student card and number to prove it. Then if necessary just say you are working part time to pay for you studies. I dont think they will force you to upgrade until you working full time.
It really is cheaper to have a student account.

No it hasn't. Bought my gf airtime just the other day.

Ok, I'll be the first to say this is posted in the wrong section

Except you won't be the first, the OP did state he wasn't sure where best to put it.

/OP is sorted so quick question :)

If you on a CHQ account and you started studying again (technically a student) and don't work (yet) can you switch to a Student account. If age matters am 25 :D.

Thanks

/Student account is best with all the kak charges we gotta pay. I mean 60c to send an email notification WTF :/

I dont see why not @Yuu

If youre a full time/part time student it wont matter as long as you can prove it,

If you'll be earning a salary then surely you'll be able to afford the extra R60-R70 pm for a proper cheque account, which comes with a Visa cheque card?
