Fog Lamps.....

With a quick scan through, the entire premise of the argument seems to be invalidated by the fact that the beams of fog lights and normal headlights would not intersect. Fogs start lower and are aimed closer to the front of the car than headlights. Sorry... pull the other one.

As much as I hate to say it lancecramp is right and you are wrong.

Question one are you a man? And second are you smart? If you are a man, you would use your logic and accept the explaination is right and if you are smart you would accept the scientific reasoning. They even explain why you feel it is better/safer when it isn't.

...and true to form, there he goes again...

You dredge up ancient studies where 2 people "propose" a bunch ideas irrelevant to what's being discussed, and you blame me for disregarding it?

edit

Lemme help you. From your quote:
the performance of the focal system degrades significantly
within the range of light levels normally encountered in night driving
Do you think "light levels encountered in night driving" haven't changed in 33 years? I'd say you might want to commission a more current study.

Sorry, can't do that. Read through the rest of the thread and you'll see that I've explained where I do see a benefit. Driving long distance at night, I would switch off the front fogs and additionally dim the instrument backlighting to cut down on what become distractions as speed increases.

The study was perfectly relevant in proving the premise of this thread, that people who drive with their fog lights on are idiots.

It actually referred to long distance vision rather than high speeds but I am over spoon feeding you. There are studies done on these things but I fully understand that they are of little interest to you as you are THE world authority on the matter. For others who may be interested though :

He has quite a few opinions that are rather inaccurate.
Play the ball not the man. Admittedly enigma243 isn't doing much better...but these last few posts are just ridiculous.

I always find it interesting that people liek you feel the need to point this out to me.... shall we see who set the tone right at the beginning?

FFS man, do you absolutely always have to be such an argumentative git?

Hmm, look at that then...

Except you're completely ignoring the fact that most people that drive with fog lights on, be it fron or rear, do so at speeds and in conditions where there is no benefit and several drawbacks, being decreased night vision for both the driver of the vehicle itself as well as other road users, and occasionally blinding other road users.

If you yourself only use your fog lamps in fog, your driveway and going round corners (which are typically the only times you're going to be going slow enough to actually benefit from using them), well good for you. You are the exception.

I rest my case. I pointed it out because it needed to be said, but I see that was a mistake. Hell...even tried phrasing it as a football analogy.

shall we see who set the tone right at the beginning?
Yes I looked at that post too ;) & its the reason for the 2nd sentence in my above post.

enigma243, you are WRONG and a danger to other road users, end of story.

They have a blinding effect and your eyes take a while adjust. In the wet they are just plain dangerous due the reflections off the road surface.

As someone who is sensitive to bright light, at night those front fog lights hurts my eyes badly. It's easier if there really is fog

I believe in the UK it's against the law to drive with fog lights if there's no fog & hope they implement that here too

It is against the law here already. Just two problems :

1. We have police that don't enforce it.
2. We have citizens who don't seem to give a damn about breaking the law.

well said

I always try to get my cars ass (with rear fog light on) as close as possible to idiots driving with their fog lights on.

Trafficops should stop fining for speed and rather fine for the improper use of fog lights. It is against the law.

Rear fogs on a clear day/night are flippin' annoying & most of all unnecessary for the driver

FOGG OFF DUDES! :p

I just let the dick go past me and then drive behind him with my brights on...see if he likes it.

I so wish for an automated potshot system which will target and destroy rear fog lights.
QFT brothers! I *can't* abide some nimrod blinding me with his (or hers: yes, let's not forget there are puh-LENTY femme drivers who pay absolutely no attention to their switchgear, much less ..you know.. anyone else) tail-fog lights. So I too fight (red) photons with (white) ones; yes it makes everything brighter but it does make it more bearable. Still, I'm waiting for the day the lout blinding me objects to MY objecting to being blinded; sadly that's what WE the one being done-in have to face!

its normaly ppl in Audi's BMW's and VW Golf GTi's that do this. And its even worse if you have DRL's or daytime running lights or xenons or angel eye headlights lol...Somehow this has become like rims or sound...it enhances the look of the car! Look, I also cannot understand it, its friggin 2pm in the afternoon and the temperature is 33 degrees...we can all see your white Audi coming...why do you have the xenonx on full blast? Its realy a status thing, some people like showing it off...

Im getting xenonx fitted end of month to my GTi...headlights and fogs...but only drive with them on at night, like, what lights were made for in the 1st place

That should improve the value a bit to the point where you can trade it in for a new Opel Astra 1.4 Turbo which comes standard with Bi-Xenon :p

LOL...ya someone I know was invited to the test drives they had at some race track. They are impressed...however...is there no OPC version?

No - not yet, and not GTC either. But you really don't need that much power. Its only for professionals like me.

hmmm, someone BROKE THE LAW and blinded me, he is an IDIOT!
i will now BREAK THE LAW and blind him too, i am SMART!

this, of course, makes sense.
