Hey guys

A friend of mine's birthday is coming up, and she loves her coffee, so I thought about getting her some beans, a grinder, etc. Problem is, although I really love my coffee as well, I've never actually been able to afford to buy all the bits for myself, so don't really know where to start!

Any online stores that you guys know of? What sort of beans should I be looking for? I can't spend SILLY money on it, but she's a close friend, so spending a bit more isn't an issue.

Thanks

Get her a coffee grinder with ceramic or metal burs. They the best. Those cheaper plastic burs in the common grinders do no good. You can always get a auto coffee machine for anything top of R4000.00 with build in grinder (Quality).

There is a place called Ikhofi in JHB Roodepoort area http://www.ikhofi.co.za/

I found their info here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=97501

I visited them last week and purchased some dark and medium roast "ABOL BUNNA Limu" Ethopian beans. Tastes good. They also let me do some tasting and they have a nice Home Blend.
They have a roasting machine on the floor, good to see the process. http://www.ikhofi.co.za/

Thanks a lot! I remembered the threads from a while ago, but they were mostly for people with some experience already.

The burr grinders are better than the blade ones but they're generally higher priced.

My last grinder was re-tasked as a herb grinder in the kitchen after I got one of the all-in-one Magnifica machines.

why these machines are so expensive only the manufaturers would know....

Gaggia make some nice espresso machine - if she is really into coffee, then espresso machine is a must. They start at around R1800 and up. They aren't the full-auto ones.
