I dunno Iniesta was also out for the latter half of the season... he's still shaking off some rust
 
Pity he missed the penalty, would of been a nice hat trick. Torres was as rusty as a 100 year old sunken ship.

The 1st goal was the best of the WC.
He was a bit lucky with 2nd with the deflection as Torres and Xavi were in really good positions.

But he was dangerous the whole night. It shows sometimes that having 2 strikers can give each of them more freedom.
I like the partnership between Alonso and Xavi - think they compliment each other - 2 very different but the best passers of the game.

First goal the best? no way... Forlan's goal against SA is still better

Torres was MIA for the entire first half...

They very well may have been if they had decided to attack rather than defend like they did against NK. I reckon you rather go out of a comp guns blazing than sitting back defending.

Who cares if you get thumped 4-0 or lose 1-0, you could win if you try. Obviously their coach seemed to think going down without a fight was the way sadly.

I agree! if ONLY JAPAN went all out with nothing to lose against Paraguay Japan would be the one playing spain in the QF...

Dont you think the intention was to attack but Spain just never allowed them to? Its easy to say that they needed to attack but they barely had the ball.

If they did push players foward they would have got a real hiding because Spain dominated the midfield so easily.

Down here in Cape Town, that was the word on the street. Journo's, Papers, Radio etc.
 
They barely had the ball because they were defensive. That is what happens when you sit back and defend you never have the ball and the swiss proved it can work but 99% of the time it will fail against a team as attacking as spain.

It will be interesting to see what happens when spain run into a team that is not sitting back defending :D.
