How do you make it so a machine can only access 1 webpage.

modify the hosts file?

I know how to restrict websites in the host file, but how to only allow access to 1 website, surely then you would need to have all the websites listed in that file?

Content filter, firewall, proxy. Setup a firewall and only allow that 1 website in/out.

Yeah - you might be right now that I'm looking at mine.

It is on a network, and so need to use a hosts file or something similar....it is locked down by a few policies......but I do have admin rights on the machine.

Firewall as an internet gateway, force gateway on machines you want to restrict. Linux, squid, google. Its all there.

He is right. You cannot "Whitelist" anything with the hosts file per se.

But there is another solution. Say I only want you to be able to surf www.google.com:

I would first add Google to my hosts file.
Now I would put in a Fake ip under my DNS settings. :D

But I hope you see the gaping hole I'm leaving open now as the computer would still be able to surf any website if one knows the ip though. :(

To do this properly would probably require 3rd party software or some kind of a proxy.

either use decent firewall software on the client and make password protected rules to allow access to one site only. or use a squid/firewall proxy and force all traffic through the proxy. You can then use allow/deny lists - works like a treat!

You can only allow people to get to myadsl :)
