Forced back to the office?

That's a valid argument, but not one that's worth my job. If we'd always worked from home and I now had to figure out the logistics of being away from home for 8hrs a day it would be different.

I've been working remotely since my first job when I finished Uni in 2016, so I don't know any better. lol

I don't understand the issue. Most people worked from an office all the time. If the company wants you back at the office - then go?

Most people only had the original model to go on.

Since COVID, WFH has been shown (in certain cases) to work just as well, if not better for certain job types and individuals.

So now that we have two models of work, why would I want to go back to the old way (me personally)? Traffic? Waking up early? Colleagues that distract you talking nonsense?

It's definitely an individual choice and needs to be based on merit. I have colleagues that goof off at home too.

It's an individuals choice if you're paying your own salary. Until then it's your companies choice.

Have loved working from home. We will be returning to part time in the office in 6 weeks or so, perhaps 2 or 3 days a week. Details to follow. I don't mind that much, figured it would return to normal eventually. Grateful the new normal still leaves me some days at home.

in the short / medium term you'd be silly to not go back to the office unless you already have your escape planned out and put in motion

then if it is really that big a deal for you, you'd plot your escape on the company's time and dime

It'd be physically impossible for our entire company to go back, they downscaled the office size and moved it to different premises. We had a 55-seater office, now we're a 35-seater

Our office does not exist anymore - well, at least not our CT branch and not a **** am I going to move to Centurion where our head office, servers, etc are.

Our company did not renew the lease of our CT branch and told us we will work from home for good.

So I will resign.

I doubt that's what he's saying (resigning and finding another job).

I think I can speak for most of us when I say that the average member on here cannot afford to first resign or just say voetsek to their manager, sit at home for 6 months and only then looking for another job.

If they told me to go back to the office, I won't protest. I would go back and immediately start looking for another job.

A lot of us on here have absolutely no reason to go sit at an office. My average day involved me getting to the office, making coffee, reading my mails and then starting to work. My office colleagues just annoyed the crap out of me with all that chit-chat and my colleague who sat next to me being on the phone all day.

Not to mention my manager coming to micromanage me by pulling a chair next to me and asking me to explain things to him.

Another wastage of time was all those unnecessary meetings. Sitting for two hours in a meeting and you can't concentrate on your work because of the talking. Now with Teams I put the volume on 10% just so I caan hear if someone mentions my name.
