If you buy a car new, from one dealer and the card breaks down, under warranty, but gets towed to another dealer, who should supply me with a courtesy car? Are they obligated to give me a car? How does it work?

Some background: I have a Fiesta ST 2014 and as far as I know, it's on their list of recall cars... I have not had the time to take the car in, as I live in Alberton and work in Midrand. Yesterday, the car broke down and was towed by Ford Protect. Alberton says they will book the car in, but can only start looking at it on Monday, as they are very busy. In the mean time, I need to get to work and back. No lift options available for me... Uber fscking expensive.

Both of them say it's the other one and both say they don't have courtesy cars available, but Nelspruit (where I bought the car) said that Alberton can ask Ford SA for a car, once they have have looked at the car and claimed the parts under warranty.

Can't expect much from ford these days, they only good if you want a braai on your kuga :P

The dealership who sold you the car, should sort out you out.

Apparently the Fiesta ST has the same problem. Searching for my contract now to see what it says.

Ford focus is one of my favourite car's, but I won't buy another ford in south Africa due to the slack service (before and after sale)

Almost this^ Wont say its my favorite. My OPC is my favorite. But with Opel pulling out and OPC's not likely to be arriving here any time soon... I had wanted to replace my OPC with an ST. Doubt this will happen.

The right thing to do is for them to give you a courtesy car but that does not usually happen. They are under no obligation to give you another car to use.

You need to add this on to your insurance as an extra.

As far as I remember they don't have to give you a courtesy car, some dealers simply do it out of good will and customer relations.

Opel is pulling out? Did someone tell Opel?

Car dealerships don't normally just give out courtesy cars, with VW you have to book in advance if you need a car. Unless you organize with the salesman that you bought the car from. With my wife's old Polo we had aircon problems a few times, just dropped it off and got into a courtesy car, no problem. But had to organize with salesman.

I have this option on my insurance, but it's only when the car goes in for damage repairs...

As for the other replies in the thread, I will not buy a Ford again as well, even though I love my ST to bits. This is the 2nd time the car had to go for repairs under warranty and both times, I had to fight a lot, before repairs was done. Why?

I've a friend who is very forthcoming and outspoken. Often his remarks are akin to: "Never a truer word spoken."

Hy sê: "Ford en die Spur was deel van ons samelewe maar hulle het die onmoontlike moontlik gemaak --Hulle het hul naam k-@-k gemaak."

I know I said bad things about Ford, but fsck, every time I get into my car, I am in love with it again. Repairs was R660, covered by warranty and got my car back yesterday. Have fun with the survey I had to do though.

Each dealership owns franchise rights to operate under Ford brand name. I.e McCarthy, Imperial, etc.

They will normally have a fleet of around 4-5 cars to operate as courtesy cars as per franchise standards, taking into account workshop load and throughput there are just not enough cars to go around.

Tried to buy a Ford last month ..... after waiting a week (going into the dealership everyday) .... for them to sort the paperwork and allow me to test drive the vehicle I moved on.

Lol, and that's still good compared to their AFTER sales service.

To be honest I might buy Ford again when I immigrate, but I've also gotten fond of my VW golf over the last few years.

This might be true, but I have found it at other dealers as well. I chalk that off to SA Service Delivery.

What did you end up buying or are you still looking?

It doesnt have the same problem. It uses the same engine as the Kuga, so as a precaution they will be upgrading the cooling system as part pf a recall. installing a collant sensor etc. The recall has not happened yet, so even if you take your car in, they wont do the upgrade.

PS I have the same car

Bought my first Ford Focus ST in 2008, loved it.
Had 3 in total.
Sold the last one couple of months ago, but one day, when I am big, hope to be able to get an RS for some fun.

My experience with Ford has confirmed that it is all about which dealership you deal with. Most are crap. Find one that gives you proper service, and stick with them. Build a rep with service manager, DP hopefully it builds a lasting relationship. I've managed to do that in CT, Pta and with one in Jhb.

The Fiesta ST is one awesome cabby... have fun..and safe miles...
