Ford Bantam 2012.

The current Ford Bantam "Facelift" is based on the recently discontinued Ford Ikon from India. (Info url and images: http://www.burnyourfuel.com/cars/ford/ford-discontinues-ikon)

Now the Indian Ikon will be replaced by the Ford Fiesta Classic (http://www.india.ford.com/servlet/Satellite?c=DFYPage&cid=1178851584297&pagename=wrapper&site=FIPL), which is the same as the South African Ikon. Due to different trends in different markets, the names differ. So basically the conclusion I draw from this, is that the new Ford Bantam 2012 will be based on the current South African Ikon and the new Indian Fiesta Classic.

Which is a good thing because we will finally have a NEW Bantam, with a new more up to date interior! It will also put it in the same dimensions as the Corsa Ute and NP200... Ofcourse this might compromise the handling that the Bantam is well-known for. Also it might mean the end of the Rocam engines (1.3 and 1.6). Seeing as both South African and Indian models feature 1.6 Duratec and 1.4 Duratorq Diesel Engines.

So it will basically look kind of like the Bantam at start of the topic. Comments?

Looks lovingly at own 2007 Model Ford Bantam!

Would actually love a more up to date Bantam but not willing to compromise on handling

Yea well this is ofcourse all speculation, I'm also running 2007 model, the best looking of the Bantams in my opinion... I do however think that if the bakkie does look like that, I might get it, the new Ikon isn't that fugly... Just don't know how they will tweak it.

Looks very good, saw the new [-]Montana[/-] Corsa Utility in this month's issue of CAR mag and it does not look as good as the Bantam :

:D True! It was developed in Brazil, so that is very possible. Looks like a mix of a new Spark + Corsa + Silverado, so yeah, that does sound like cousin, and possibly an uncle. I'll always be a Bantam fan, guess cause my first car was one.

This is ofcourse if it isn't based on the Ford Figo, if you look at the price of the Ikon, it's around R150 000, don't know if dropping 2 seats and windows would really make up for the R40 000 gap... Where as the Figo is more in the same price range as the Bantam. But looking at the Figo, I feel like the wheelbase is to short? It would be okay if it was based on the Ford Figo but I'd much rather prefer it being based on the Ikon!

And I have to agree that the new Corsa is fugly!

I wonder how much of the Bantam has changed under the skin? The current bantam is very much the same as its predecessor if you peel away the bits of Fietsta. That's not a bad thing, my 2000 Fazda/Bantam 1.6i was brilliant but when compared to the payloads of the current Strada and Corsa its not the best workhorse in town.

At least its still the best looking
