Hi guys,

This is my first post, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this (or something else that I did wrong). So I had a little accident this morning, I reversed into a pole and made a large dent in my boot (I know, I'm stupid), large enough that the paint peels off at one point (see image) but the inside and working of the boot is fine. The Figo is a year-old demo model (2016 Figo, I had it from 2017 May) and is a Champagne color (or Gold, to sound more masculine, if that even changes anything, I wanted a silver one to be fair but I digress). I'm staying in Gauteng, and just wanted to hear what my best course of action is and how much you guys think it will cost to fix?

Thanks in advice guys. I suck at cars.

Are you not insured?

SO drove into the parking lot abit too fast and jumped the kerb, car is booked in for next week, needs a new bumper, decided to let the insurance handle it

Are you not insured?

Yes, I have comprehensive cover, but my excess is insanely high (R9000) because I had to keep the amount I pay each month low somehow. I just wanted to hear how much more than my excess it is before I put in a claim.

Drive it as is, maybe you're lucky and someone smashes you properly and you can then have it all repaired in one go. Just disclose the ding on the boot to the insurer and tell them you not going to claim for it now, you're just informing them.

That's an option but also check the gaps and the rubber you don't want the rain getting in as well.

It will be expensive as is always the case with bodywork and paint. Get a couple of quotes from a body shop and see. But if you shop around you can get it down way under that R9k.

You also want someone that can match the paint perfectly for you , you see too many cars on the road today in multiple shades of colours

I had similar damage to my Figo recently - except it was right next to the boot lid, so required no new panels, just dent removal.

Cost to insurance was R17k. Just a new rear bumper is already R5k after painting (assuming they replace it and cannot repair it).

Best is, just take it to a panel beater for an assessment. Then you'll know and can make the call.

Did you by it in Pretoria in Voortrekker Road and does it have about 55 000km on the clock?

Anyway, just take it to a few panel beating places and get quotes and see what they charge.

You need to get that fixed otherwise it's going to rust eventually.
9k excess is nuts btw

For some idea of what you're in for, respraying my back bumper with some scratch repairs came to around 11k.

I'd say you're in for 20-30k there.

Unfortunately not, I bought it in JHB at a useless dealership, if I knew what I knew now I wouldn't go there. Got it with 26k km though, so that was nice.

Hahahahaha thanks for the good laugh, really cheered up my day :D

Thanks for the advice guys! Do you guys have any suggestions to any good panel-beaters in or around Pretoria that will do a good job for a decent price?

Geez, Ford's are expensive to fix. I remember my blue i20 had deep scrapes and minor dents on front bumper/both right side doors from retread on highway I couldn't avoid..

Insurance replaced both bumpers (although not sure why the back bumper was replaced), resprayed, new right foglight, both doors/the metal part at the bottom of doors whatever you call it.. all came to R17k inclusive .Everything was fixed 100%. Colours matched, no dodgy backyard deals, all bolts/screws properly tightened and even showed me the old crap they replaced. This was about 3 years ago.

Wasn't ford, was merc ;) Just the front bumper part was 12k. Replacing front bumper, two mesh grills and a foglight was 40k.
Was basing my guess on his car on new rear bumper, bumper spray, new tailgate, spray etc.
