Ford Figo vs Ford Ikon

Hi all! I'm faced with the decision between a 2011 Ford Figo 1.4 Ambiente, and a 2009 Ford Ikon 1.6 Trend. Both have 130 000 kilometres on the clock, both are in very good condition, and both are effectively the same price. It will be my first car, and will be used primarily to commute between home and university. However, if I can help it, I'd like to choose a car that will last me well into the future, past my student days.

If you happen to own, have owned, or have dealt with either car, I would love to hear from you.

I would go for the Ikon, the Figo is so generic. The 1.6 engine in the Ikon has got nice power and torque, even with the aircon on overtaking is a breeze.

Thanks for your response! The lower power on the Figo, especially with the air conditioner on, is something I've read about. Do you think it's as significant as they say it is?

Are there any other notable features about the Ikon, or notable differences between the two cars?

Aircon usage hardly detectable (I have a 2012 one).

Don't listen to the "power" idiots, I would have been much better off with a 1.3l Bantam than the 1.6l everyone had recommended. Especially on the wallet fuel wise.

Both good cars, but Ikon heavier on fuel.

They are basically the same car the Trend should be of higher specification which means the Ikon should be the better car overall, I am not too sure about the differences but the most notable feature I can think about off the top of my head is the electric windows, the Figo ambient has manual windows.
 
one thing to consider is how practical that car is vs the OP's age, clearly the OP's life is just starting and this person will no doubt move and transport a lot of weird and wonderful things or people around considering student life and all.

for that reason i would say the hatchback figo would be better because the seats can fold flat, you can clip out the back board for extra height etc. etc.

the standard square boot of the ikon limits the versatility aspect somewhat.

2011 Ford Figo 1.4 Ambiente with out a doubt as it is still in the market (not sure if they even sell the Ikon anymore)
 
I drove a 2011 1.4 Ford Figo for a month, it was a rental. It was horrible, listen to the people about the Aircon and power thing it's real, I would put it on and the car basically felt like a 900cc.
I had a 1.6 Polo at the time and you'd think the 1.4 Figo would be better at fuel consumption was horrible.
 
My FIL has an ikon 1.6 trend, think it's a 2007 model. Mileage is crazy, got a new engine beginning of the year at just under 300k km. Fuel consumption is decent and ride is very comfortable with aircon making little difference to power.

I would recommend.

Edit:I'm relatively sure it has a cambelt.
